2k2 bose does not play CDR

Just picked up my 2k2 SE 6spd. Love the car.

I have the Bose with 6 disk changer. Sounds great.

I would not have paid $799 for the option if I knew it did not play CD-R or CD-RW format. I checked my owners manual - and yes it says the changer is not designed to play these formats.

I guess I can't play any music I've burned onto CD-R's. Has anyone else out there run into this? Is there a fix short of installing an MP3 player or another trunk mounted changer? I love the steering wheel controls - after 800 miles I'm hooked - and I don't want to give up their functionality.

Sometimes different brands of CDRs will play whereas others won't. I used to use Ricohs but they had problems playing on my Eclipse player.
I switched to Memorex and it solved that problem.

Yes, some CD players just won't play CDRs period...no matter what you do, at least in my experience.

You can still have your steering wheel controls with aftermarket players. There are adapters out there that will work.

maybe you should check the cd and not the player. Maybe when you burned the cd, you forgot to "close the cd"

I have a 2k2 SE 6 speed with the 6 disc in dash bose, and it plays CD-Rs all day long. As a matter of fact, I don't think there are any non-CD-Rs in the changer right now. I use Imation and Sony CD-Rs, so you may wanna try those. Also, don't burn CD-Rs at more than 4x if they are audio. Some players have a hard time reading them if you burn faster than that. Just my input and $0.02

Try silver or lighter CDRs, I have had good luck with them. The audio cd players have difficulty reading darker blue or green ones to due the color temperature / reflectivity factors of the reading laser / disc combo. Something about the wrong wavelentgh reflected back. (How's that for a technical answer?)

I usually buy the cheapest 10 pak, no name brand I can find to test. Once they work on all my CD players, I buy a whack of that brand (what ever it is) just to record audio CDs.

Hope this helps.

get a RioCar, and install it. You'll love it a lot more than your steering wheel controls.

they're sickeningly cheap right now, too, just a couple hundred bucks for a 20 gig one.
