Time to upgrade Bose ... What's the latest/gretest in the aftermarket? ?

Time for a new stereo, my Bose has been dead/dying for the past 8 years.

So, was looking for some definitive answers regarding 5.5 gens with a Bose.

Do I need a Metra/GXE kit in order to fit a double DIN set-up, since the OEM Bose interface doesn’t work with most aftermarkets systems? Also, how about getting the steering wheel buttons to work, I hear it requires another sub-harness, correct? Anyone have a PN?

While I’m on the subject, what are people using as a modest, not overly priced unit?

Only issue I found was when you use radio the channel does not scan up and down using the steering wheel buttons

Before if I pressed up and down it would search for signal but now it just goes 90.1 - 90.2 or 90.1 - 90.0 regardless of if there is a signal.

Intentionally I had no reason to upgrade my 5th gen bose unit. I added the aux in via the tape player ran the wire under the dash and I was done... Somehow I could not justify the expense of buying the oem Nissan double din dash... I know its rare, people charge over $100 for a used one so I decided to stick with my bose until the day I found a double din oem nissan trim at the junkyard for $5 LOL
I end up using the Clarion double din nx501 navigation, added the back up camera, and the safety switch, and the infiniti 10" power sub box... I love my set up now, all the speakers are oem with exception to the sub which I took out to allow air to come into the car... Can't say anything bad about it... almost year and a half latter I had no issues... Its not the top of the line model navi and it does have cons, but overall its working great.. Make sure you buy the metra harness for the Bose system... also find a system that pushes more than 2V on the pre outs...

My Bose is near dead. Readout is black, only control I have is with the power **** on the dash and it only turns it on/off, no volume control aside from the steering wheel. And only 2 presets work, that's the FM 1&2 pre sets (1 station from each) And it takes a while to actually work as in put any sound/signal out after starting the car, about 10-12 minutes in the summer, about 20 in the winter.

So I'd say I'm due for an upgrade as it's been this way for at least the past 7-8 years.

In the car audio world, "latest" is not "greatest".
