Bose sound(95 SE)

I know the amp supposedly puts out 200W peak of power, but when I turn it up, the woofers bottom out and the tweeters clip and distort. Would it be wise to change the woofers and tweeters only, or should I go for a whole new system? I like the look of the stock Bose radio, and since Bose doesn't make aftermarket radios I don't want to replace it.

Also, could I replace the woofers in the Maxima with woofers from my house? I have a couple of pairs of old speakers lying around, and I think they're powerful enough for the amps. I know car speakers usually run at about 1-4 ohms...would 6-8 ohm speakers destroy anything?

You can put your home speakers in your car and it won't hurt anything, however, your amps will "see" twice the resistance, 8 ohms instead of 4 ohms, so you will only get half the power out of your amps. As far as replacing the Bose speakers, as long as you replace them with speakers that have the same impedance (4 ohms or whatever),I think it would be fine. I'm just guessing at that however as I have never worked on a Bose system, and they may wire their systems differently than standard stock systems. Hope this helps.
