Anyone know much about the Eclipse Cd player model 54410.

I was just wondering if anyone has this cd player, because i would like to know how it performs and what features it has. A friend is offering to sell one to me for 180 bucks, which i believe the retail is 330. If anyone has it, please let me know, because i want to make sure this is proper. Also, how well does it fit into a 1998 Maxima

Thanks

bryan

when its installed, will it automatically have those open slots (you know where you can put your extra stuff like change and sunglasses. Because i know in the maxima its quite a large head unit.

also. Maxima Dave. I am also thinking of getting some Boston Acoustics FX 6 6 1/2 speakers for the maxima, 4 of them to be exact. 2 in the rear, 2 in the front doors. Once i get this cd player in there, will it have enough power to power those speakers, or do i HAVE TO get an amplifier for them? Keep in mind I am looking for some good sound, but nothing SPECTACULAR.

Thanks

bryan

you can visito www.bostonacoustics.com and go through their products and look at the fx6, they are nice looking speakers. 120 a pair, but a guy can get them to me for 85.

The FX line is designed to be ran off of deck power so the Eclipse power output will be fine. All you need is an OEM Nissan radio pocket to mount in the dash. Who's your stereo hookup?

Cool, that saves me about 200 bucks that i would've paid for an amp.

Don't quite understand that. I have this thing underneath my factory unit that has a flip door, where i can place small items if i want to.

Sweetsound is able to hook me up with the cd player. He has been recommended by many people. So i am assuming its all ok to send him a check for 195 bucks, right sorry Sweet if you are reading this, but just have to make sure my money is going to definitly give me a cd player in return

He also has some MB
Quart 6.5" components for sale that are a couple of years old, and retail for 450 bucks, but is only selling for 110. So i don't know if paying 170 bucks for 4 Boston Acoustics fx6 or going with the quarts are a better deal. It always helps to have second opinions, so that is where you come in.

thanks maximadave

Installed one of those CD players in my GF's car.. sounds great, even onthe stock speakers (waay better than my Blose! )

paid $200 for it on closeout for it locally.

as for the unit itself, it's great.. excellent sound quality and a nice amp built in. definitely one of the best head units I've used. I actually thought about giving her my Premier DEX-P1R and an extra 4 channel amp (P1R has only preamp outputs) and stealing the eclipse for my competition car.

features are great.. performance is great. the only thing I don't like is that the writing on the buttons is too damn small that I can't see it while driving. I have to stop and lean down to see what buttons I'm pushing. (my eyes aren't the best though). Plus I only ride in her car once in a blue moon.. I'm not familiar with the button layout.

as for would I recommend it? DEFINITELY. especially for your price.

it all depends on how loud you want it and how much money you care to spend. if you're going to add more than one small sub, then I would recommend an amp for your mains, but if you're just going to add a small one with low power, then run the main speakers off the deck and be happy.

If that's all you plan to do, then I wouldn't worry about an amp for the fronts. should sound pretty good.

thanks matt. That is what i was wanting to hear, because i want it to sound good, but i don't want to spend a sh*t load. Here is what my cost should be

Eclipse Cd Player - $195
4 Boston Acoustics fx6 6.5" speakers - $170
installation- ?? hopefully no more then 100.

Is it easier to install speakers and a cd player then a sub. One of my friends said that with Maximas, you have to drill a hole through the firewall to get the cords through? I don't know anything about this stuff.

the only time you have to run cables through the firewall is when you'r running the power cable for the amp. my car I didn't have to drill a hole throught he firewall, but I did anyway (my power cable is bigger than your thumb. 1/0 gauge welding cable)... but in a 4th gen I'm not sure if there's an easy way through the firewall or not.

if you still have to get the sub and amp installed too, you're looking at close to double that for costs at a shop. head unit and 2 pair of speakers will cost you around $100 (40-60 for the deck and 25-40 for each pair of speakers)

Well, the reason i asked about how hard it is to install was i was going to have the shop do the sub and amp, but i have some good friends that do some of their own installations and i was thinking of having them install the speakers and HU unit for me. What type of time do these items take to install.

Also, since the trunks of 4th gen maximas kinda slant down, the box wants to slide, how will the shop probaby get that to stay?

Jag, let me know about the player and the speakers.
DEX-P1R is a great unit BTW. I had it for two years and it's going to be used in my current system (under construction)

Also, i forgot to mention in my earlier posts. WHen i asked what kind of features the cd player has, i was hoping someone could tell me in Layman terms. That list of info the cd player has (its specifications) is like biology terms to me, doesn't make sense. I am wanting to know if it has an equilizer, can i change the different sounds it makes (like theatre, live, ect..), and anything else really cool it might do. I know it doesn't come with remote control.

Thanks

bryan

Bryan, I don't beleive it has any of the three features you mentioned. If you want something like that you're either spending $600-700 on a cd player or have to buy an external processor.

ok, thats fine. Then if someone has a few minutes, could you go through that list someone posted on the first page and maybe take about 5 of those points, and then explain what they mean in simpleton terms (a.k.a idiot terms)

I just found out on the web that the cd player DOES have an option to control the volume of your subwoofer. So basically i can adjust my speakers and my sub separetly. that makes me happy. When i said equilizer, i believe i was refering to being able to control the bass, treble, how much you want in front, how much you want in back. That kind of thing. Since the cd player is good and the speakers will be good, there probably is no need to have to control every little tweak here and there.

Ok, i also found something else out that confuses me. WHen looking at the info for the cd player, that list makes it look like it provides only 13 watts of power per channel. I just came across the same cd player at Tweeter.com and their list says it provides 35 watts x 4 channels. The 4 speakers im getting (boston acoustics fx 6 6 1/2) only need 12-100 watts of power. Can anyone clear this up for me, since there are two different information sources for this.

thanks

35 watts per channel is "marketing power" which is to basically help them sell the cd plaer since every other company advertises them this way as well. It's basically peak music power with horrible distortion. Eclipse is actually one of the few companies that has enough ***** to publish the real world power output specs hence the 13 watts.
