3rd Gen Wiring For Head Unit????

Ok I will be installing a Pioneer P7200 some time this week and I have one question. The metra harness has two orange wires. One for Illumination and one for dimmer. But the head unit only has output for illumination. What should I do with the dimmer wire?......I am pretty sure this has been answered recently but I can't find it for some reason

According to the wiring diagram (from Chilton manual), the illumination wire (the red one with the yellow stripe) is probably all you need to hook up to your radio. This one goes to +12V when the lights are turned on, or disconnected otherwise. All the interior lights are connected between the illumination side and the dimmer side, so presumably the dimmer side varies between ground (to make the lights be as bright as possible) and something higher (to dim the lights). The only downside of not using the dimmer wire is that the radio won't dim.

What he said...

you need to cap off the dimmer wire so that it can't short against ground. if you don't, you can blow the fuse for your dash, interior, and tail lights. don't ask how I know.

what I do is just fold it over in a small loop, then shrinkwrap it with the end of the wire somewhere under the shrinkwrap.. can't short out on anything that way.

do you have the DEH-P7200 (CD) or the KEH-P7200 (tape)?

both nice units.. little older (about '95), but still very nice units.
