Or the big daddy of all amps

Zapco The Zapco 2 9.0's put together 4,400 watts RMS
Almost 9,000 Watts peak.

Depending on if the subs can handle a 2 ohm load, JBL BP1200.1. 1200 watts at 2 ohms for $275 from a name brand that you can rely on.... pretty good stuff. Autotek also has a really good reputation and is fairly cheap.

JBL makes great speakers. I have never heard a similar claim for their amps. There is a reason that a 1200 watt amp is selling for a few hundred dollars. The reason points directly to the reliability and sound quality.

i don't think the jbl is a bad buy. the amount of actual real power it puts out i'm not sure. but a lot of people are using that amp when they need lots of power without lots of money.

i'd go with the zapco stuff too, but it's not in most people's budgets.

The issue of the JBL isn't so much the amount of power but the method of delivery. I've been told in side by side listening tests that a better amp with half the power, MTX for example, blows it away. And I mean half the actual bench tested power, not advertised power. Power without control is not a good thing. It's like putting a chevy 454 in a geo and using the stock 3 spd automatic tranny and axles. You have plenty of power but you won't be going very far or very fast.

Hmm, everyone at the carsound.com website stand firm behind that amp. And the price doesn't mean much at all. I have a friend that built his own 1000 watt class D amp for VERY cheap. He just has to put housing around it and the connectors on it and *viola*, its done. I'm sure its not going to sound as great as an MTX or anything like that, but I'm just trying to illustrate how price on amps isn't a linear function of the quality. Hell, look at RF, there subs and amps are nice and all, but they are NOT worth the price. They can charge an arm and a leg cause they have a fan base and people that don't know anything about car audio know RF.

i'm not saying your wrong about the amp, but he's only going to be pushing his subs with the amp, so the quality of the sound won't really be affected by the amp. just as long as he has enough power he should be fine.

true, true.....i have a seperate amp for the front and rear speakers as it is. So i'm not to concerned about sound quality of the amp, just if it has power. I just want an amp that will pound my subs...something close to competion. I've been looking into the 1000 watt MTX class D, some JL audio amps and phoenix gold 800w amps. That's about all the major brands that i can find around here....also some Audiobahn. I'm not too big into ordering off line, I would rather go to a shop, listen and buy there. But i guess i need to do somemore research.....thanks guys
