Rockford Fosgate amp
#1
I was looking for a Rockford Fosgate amplifier around 100-150 watts. I want to run one JL12W0 sub. Here's my question, what is the difference between a 1 channel and a 2 channel amp? Would you suggest buying a 1 or 2 channel amp to run 1 sub, and why? Thanks.

The mono amps that you are looking at are designed to run at 2 ohms for peak output. If you are going to get a 12W0, then you would want a two-channel (of the same price) bridged mono, and you'll get more power. Make sure that you get a 12W0-4 to get the most output. You can run the 12W0 with the Power 200a1, but you'll get more power with the Punch 250a2 bridged mono, for less $.

There isn't that much difference, and for a sub, SQ of the amp means very little. Power is the most important thing for subs.

JL Audio rates it at 125 watts, but they always underrate their subs anyways. Plus, having more than enough power is always good. One reason is that the amp won't ever be overworked (and shut down or create distortion) if there is plenty of headroom. Also, you aren't likely to blow the sub up with more wattage than is rated. An amp doesn't produce its peak output all of the time, so the amp won't be sending a huge amount of wattage for normal listening volumes.

Both will get the job done nicely. The Audiobahn makes more power, but it's a little bit more expensive. For the money, you'd probably be happy with the RF and the 12W0-4.

In my opinion, yes. RF's quality has gone downhill over the last few years, largely due to the fact that they signed a mass-production deal with Best Buys, and their production and R&D quality hasn't kept up. Audiobahn is fairly new, but their equipment has performed well on bench tests, especially for the price. Another good but inexpensive brand is Crossfire. Take a look at the TEK35.2. It will work well for your application, and is a very good amp for the money. I can quote specs from a bench test on that amp if you want.

Go look on ebay and they have great deals or new on used stuff. I am getting most of my stuff off ebay but teh only downfall is that I have to pay extra for shipping to Canada. Right now I don't know exactly how much I will spend.
