Just wondering: Bose systems

Just wondering, a question for all those Bose stereo systems in their car: Is it hard to bypass this setup if you add/remove this type of system for an aftermarket one? I heard and been reading all the complications in upgrading from this install. I am very knoweledgeable about car stereo systems in cars, but I heard (even from professional installers) there are some complications involved with any modifications with the Bose systems. I plan on buying a 2002 Max, but it comes with a Bose system. I plan on swapping my system in my '95 to the 2002, but I don't want to run into any problems, so I was wondering if anybody out there took out the Bose system and replaced it with an aftermaket one? If so, how was it done. Complicated? I never did like factory stereo systems, so I plan on doing the same thing within the first week when I bought my '95 eight years ago, tackle and replace that "factory" sound.

You can get the 2002 Maxima without BOSE. Why not just get that and go from there?

if you happen to get a maxima and you dont want bose (the better choice in this situation), just run all your own wires for the speakers. when i get my new hu installed, im gonna have the following wires hooked up:
-constant 12v
-ignition
-ground
-amp turn on

im running amps for ALL my speakers (though you dont need to if you dont want to), so i need to run my own wires throughout the car anyway. but if you dont want to amp your highs, just get some wire and run it from the head unit to your speakers in the doors and the rear deck, that way you dont have to cut ANY bose wires, so the factory crap can go back in. plus you can use better wire for the speakers anyway.

Yup, if you want leather, they screw you into buying the Bose along with it.

Re: Just wondering: Bose systems

If you're going to replace the Bose system then plan on replacing EVERYTHING!! I am also very knowledgeable and altough the intall is not too awfully difficult, the Bose makes it much harder than it should be.

Yes, like another poster suggested, you will have to replace all the factory wiring and just make yours from scratch. It's not only the best way to go but the easiest and most trouble-free.

I'm in the middle of eliminating my Bose system. You can read along if you want.

i disagree. i think running your own quality wire is the best way to go...the quality aftermarket wire is WAY better than that factory trash. its not as easy to run it, but i agree that its easier to not have to tear everything apart again.

Re: Just Wondering: Bose systems

Thanks to everyone who responded to my post. The responses were very helpful. I believe car manufactuers "lure" you into buying their cars without even replacing their so called "premium" sound systems. They seem to or try to compete with the aftermarket systems, but in reality, aftermarket will always be better than factory! Bose systems, as far as I know, is the only system that makes modifications difficult. I mean, Bose sounds good and all, but aftermarket is definitely the way to go for true realistic "clean" sound. Don't you guys agree?

I'm not sure if I wasn't clear enough, but I basically said the same thing you just did, so I'm not sure what you're disagreeing with.

If you're buying and not leasing...

You could buy a leatherless Maxima and get nicer seats from www.leatherseats.com for less than the cost of leather.

In the end, nicer leather, no Bose, less $$ than removing it.

Even if it's a lease, you might actually negotiate a higher residual value from it.

Honestly, Id say Bose is the best factory System I ever herd in any car. its got the loudest highs. If your smart youll just do what I did and save money. Turn your Subwoofers up and just use them for the bass. Then On your Headunit, Turn your bass for your interior speakers all the way down, and the treble all the way up. It provides me with Clear Sound Quality even with the Volume Blasted to the fullest. And no Distortion.

Question, on my 2K2, I have the BOSE, probably will switch it out eventually, lacking in money right now. Anyhow, separate controls for the sub? What are you talking about? On mine, the bass control is the bass control period. Is there some super secret button that I'm missing that controls the sub volume relative to the interior speaker volume?

Most Bose systems, like mine, don't have line out RCAs. Yours has 2 sets of RCA outs. You have to take out the head unit to access them. Bose is starting to make it easier to add stuff to the system.

Yeah, On my Head Unit it has diff controls. Theres one for the Sub, One for the Bass (Interior Speakers) and one for the Trebble. All Headunits should have this option, the newer ones!

On the 2K2, I don't see what you're talking about. Mine just has Bass, Treble, the volume up/down junk at speed changes, Fader, and Balance. No sub control. What year do u have? I assume it's not a 2K2. Can anyone help with this?
