AMP and RMS question

I have two 12' subs, 500RMS, 1000peak

I am looking at this brand amp
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=1824739681

What does 'bridged' mean?
Does this mean i could hook up the 2 12's by bridging wires? or what, so i would have 500 watts for each sub?

Should i stick to the RMS so i have both subs at that, or does the max power 1000 watts matter>

They have 3 yr warranty but i dont want to blow them

That amp is poo dog, stop looking at that

Bridged means basically( in a real simple form) that you combine channels together to make more power.

Go by RMS peak power is just a marketing technique.

hey first, apologies to rob, that was me who posted under you.
You were logged in under the computer i was on, so i just posted since i was lazy :P

You must go to WA too? - well anyway

Would a "Pyramid" amp be better or is that worse than Legacy?
basically the amp needs to be one of those since thats all the money i have right now, and all the money i will have for a while, so just pick out of those two.

it's so sad to see those two subs just sitting there, begging to release large amounts of vibrations and air

Exactly, save some money and buy something quality. I've seen people try and save money with those brand amps and end up paying more in the long run.

Can anyone suggest the cheapest amp that will properly power 2 500watt RMS subs?

Ebay is your best friend...these would do fine for example, what kind of subs are they? Model number?

Rockford 360a2

Rockford 500a2

If you play your cards right you can get a 360a2 for 150-175 or a 500a2 for 175-225...look for no reserve auctions

Yeah both those amps are absolute ****. Save a little while longer and buy a quality amp like a Rockford Fosgate or something, you need something a lot better than pyramid, legacy lanzar or any of those other joker brands to run your subs decently and for more than 2 weeks

for people on a budget but needing mucho power, i see a lot of people using the jbl1200.1 or the jbl600.1 amps. if i had to go with a cheaper amp, i'd go with the jbl's.

No good.

Heres a generel ( this could be debated) but figure if the amp cost less than say 250-300 retail you don't want it. If there showing you large numbers and lots of advertising is centered around that, you don't want it.

First of all, I think something that everyone missed...Legacy IS Pyramid ! YES they are both garbage!! Pyramid/Legacy is the name that I use when I speak of garbage. LoLz. Second if you have 2 subs that say 500watts RMS it does not neccesarily mean you need a 1000 watt amp. What kind of speakers are they? The Legacy amp that you are looking at will NOT put out any where close to 1000 watts. What it will give you is alot of NOISE, and headaches. Genaral rule of thumb: quality amps usually range approx. $1 per watt. Another thing to keep in mind...most of the Quality/Reputable amps do NOT endorse internet sales especially not on Ebay. Alot are usually B stock (refurbs),hence NO warranty. For what you are looking to spend this may be ok with you.Ebay then, yes, can be your friend.

Well said, though the doller a watt rule is not real acurate. Thats more for an entry level amp thats ok. I still say if it cost less than 300 new it's not worth looking at.

You are absolutely correct on the "dollar a watt" being more for entry level, but I was under the assumption thats what he was looking for.

the subs are 'pyle' brand. I know they are not any good, but I got them because they were dirt cheap, new, and came with a 3 year warranty.

I can always dump them anyhow when i come into some money.

AMP i see now is much more important, and for the cd player header unit, I am looking at modest priced units by big companies as seen in my other post.

Theres no point in getting a real good amp to power crap subs or vis versa. Pesonally I say keep saving it seems you want to do just about everything...figure thats gonna cost you about 1500-2500 to do it all pretty good and you will be happy for some time. NO point in spending 500 now and 1500 later and being out that 500 just cuz you have the have to have it now syndrome. Keep on saving and do it right once...being cheap upfront cost you more in the end

I just dont have that sort of money, but want things now lol ( dont we all)

I spent 100 on the 2 subs and ported box, want to spend 200 on cd unit, and i can get a cheapo amp for 80 bucks (1000watt rms)

And that would only cost me $380 + shipping

That price just really appeals to me, i'm sure the amp and subs can hold out under modest volumes until i come into money, I dont intend on abusing them, and i assume they all come with warranties.

I just dont know what to say, i value all your opinions, but i happen to be a poor 16 year old :P

With all due respect...we were all a "poor 16 year old" at one point. And as all younger generations...we wanted everything right away !! Am I right people? O and btw I refer to "younger generations" as the mid teens. I am only 28 so don't think Im so old fart . As far as 1000watts rms..for only $80. I cliche' "you get what you pay for" !!! I can't stress that enough. PLEASE save for money.

Ok I spoke....hehe

I will not personally vouch for them but I have heard good things about Sound Storm Force series. And they have the one of the best $>watt ratios out there

Dudu, you can ask but you're gonna get the same answer, stay the hell away from Pyramind, pyle, legacy, moblie authority, if the price is cheap then the product is cheap, when it comes to car audio, if i were you i would sell the subs right now, save money or even better, buy some good speakers 6.5's or whatever, they'll sound much better that that crap, i have a POS amp in my car and i truly hate it, it's ruining the sound of a halfway decent system

Best bet talk to someone who can cut you a good deal, anyone know the guy who works for tweeter? I'd hook him up but we've got our doors closed right now

So well said...I'm willing to beat that Ive spent more on audio alone than anybody in here. I started with some "so so" stuff when I was 17 and I have yet to become satisfied and I run some if not the best stuff there is. I will repeat what we have been saying...You can not get a 1000 true watt amp for 80 bones. You have fallen into the gimic of marketing, they do not have to tell you any truth...You want truth look at the fuses on the amp...You cant run 1000 watts on a baby fuse. Besides if an 80 doller 1000 watt amp was true why then are there 1000 doller 1000 watt plus amp. Don't take any of this personal, were just trying to put you in the right direction. You say your poor, well woun't it suck to get some cheapo amp and then really be ****ed when you don't get anything out of it and have to keep saving...if you just want to toss money away wright me a check and mail it too.... j/k Just try to resist the tempation to pick up poo
