CDR CDRW on 2K2 BOSE
CDR CDRW on 2K2 BOSE
In the manual it says that they don't recommend putting CDRs or CDRWs in the BOSE system. Anyone tried it? Does the system work with these discs? This is referring to a 2K2 BOSE system.

The bose changer is just picky. I have some Office Depot brand CDRs that worked with my Sony changer but not in the Bose. But now I have Memorex and those work great. Suggestion: borrow some different recorded CDRs from friends and as soon as your stereo reads one stick with it (my Bose unit almost decided to keep that office depot cd as a consolation prize).
I have a 2002 SE with Bose, and 4 out of 6 of my CDs in there are burned. I use Imation, Sony, and a few cheap CDs so far, and have not run into any that wouldn't play. I think Nissan just put that there so they wouldn't have to say "I dunno why the dumb thing don't work". There is also a possibility that the SPEED that you burn it at could factor in. I always burn audio at 4x (to keep the burning errors down) so that the discs are compatible in most players. I have only found 1 unit that refuses to play my burned discs (1999 Caddilac Catera CD Changer in the trunk - HU played them fine).
do you know if playing burned CD's in the stock HU, or in any deck not designed to play CDR's/CDRWs, damages the HU in anyway? we always played CD-R's in my girlfriend's prelude at for a while it wouldn't read any type of CD at all. tried cleaning in and everything, but couldn't get it to work. started working again when i started playing around with the cd player shoving cds in and out(through frustration). it still cuts out once in awhile though.

There is no substantial proof that any form of burned CD causes the HU to have a shorter life, however, if you are like me and switch CDs often, there is a possibility of a problem.
Dirt.
CDs contain dirt, dust, and other things that aren't good for the HU. The best thing to do is always wipe off the CD before putting it into the player, but really, who wants to do that? No one. So another solution is to clean the player regularly. The problem with the Nissan HU is that it's a changer, and you can't get directly to the laser to clean it with alcohol and a cotton swab. So my recommendation would be to use a CD laser cleaning disc specifically designed to clean "changers".
Hope this helps
