Can someone tell me if a '95 BOSE(double-din) CD/casstette headunit and rear speakers is compatible with a '91 with BOSE(single-din) cassette player?

Is it a DIRECT swap for both the speakers and HU?
Would I have to change *anything*(wires, etc)?

Thanks in advance.

i doubt it but why??/

why u wanna go withthe single din?? i think you have a amp in the trunk so changing the deck wont help you out. might as well get a aftermarket deck :

Oops, maybe I didn't make it clear...

I have the '91 single-din currently; I want to replace it with a '95 double-din.
I don't want to drop the $$ on a system, especially on this old car, I just want a CD player.

I think my BOSE puts out 160watts, so would replacing the rears(which I need to do) increase the output?
My main concern is compatibility.

Thanks

sorry

but i'm not too clear on what you mean by "so would replacing the rear..." speakers only??? but you still have the same power output so no it won't help too much.. i suggest if you wanna replace any speakers at all, then do the front first. a few competitors in some audio meets don't even really have speakers in the rears. but as far as the swap.. i think it should work. i used the 4th gen wiring harness for my aftermarket deck. so it theoretically should work, without the need to buy a wiring harness. but everythign sould work. just see if the the 91 wiring harness is the same as the 95. if it's the same then it'll work.. so all u're spending money on is wires.

Let me try that again...

The 4th/5th gen BOSE systems have 200w; my system has 160w.
Where do they get the 40w? It must be the speakers...so I was guessing that the rear speakers in the 4th gen BOSE would have a more powerful amp. But it is possible the 40w is from the tweeters (6spkrs vs. my 4spkrs).
Anyways, my rear speakers are pretty much on their way out, so why not replace them with some newer BOSE speakers from a 4th gen? I'm not looking to enter any competition I just want to fix up my BOSE a little.

Thanks for the help.

output

i assume the extra 40watts comin' from the amp in the trunk, so u gotta swap that out. but if it's not there then it's just the head units pre amp. oh the amp is one unit. the amp powers all the speakers.. so no seperate amp for the speakers unless you have an after market set up. (2 chanel to the front and two for the back) but for factory set ups they are just usually a deck that is pre amped (the deck powers all the speakers) or a factory amp in the trunk powers everything. but outa curiosity how much are you payin' for the bose upgrade? if not anything then go for the full swap

Still not sure yet...

I wanted to get everything cleared up and see if it was even possible to swap.

I thought the deal with the BOSE is that each speaker is powered by a separate amp with some coming from the HU pre-amp...have you checked out a BOSE Max(was yours BOSE equipped?)?

I really don't plan on spending much at all...I think ~$200 is fair for a '95 BOSE. It's only a BOSE and it's 4yrs old...so maybe I'll offer even less.

yeah

my system was also bose. i swapped most of the stuff out. just not the speakers cuz i'm low on cash. i'm gettin' speakers soon. but i'm not selling or trading. but i think you should sit in a 95 listen to the system and judge for yourself if it's worth the swap.

Thanks...

for all the help.
Well, I think this is honestly the cheapest way to go..and I don't doubt that it'll sound better than my current system (being newer and having a CD player)...but I'll try out a '95 BOSE sometime.
