Amp location ideas...

..where can I install my amp so its not in plain view every time I open the trunk. I've consider inside the trunk in the paneled area where the car jack is. Any suggestion on how to do this?

Make sure your amp is efficient enough that it doesn't overheat if its tucked in somewhere with little ventilation.

I don't think I'll have a choice with my amp - have to mount it as close to the passthru window as possible, and keep the window open probably, lest I start going nuts with 12v fans.

i just mounted a rockford fosgate 300s in my trunk....i had the same problem as you...no freaking clue where to put it but this is what i did

on the left hand side there's an indentation in the liner...what i did was take a piece of wood and screwed it onto the metal behind the liner to the RIGHT of the hole...then i cut a slit through the liner and had the wood stick out covering the hole...i mounted the amp on that...the wood is held on by about 5-6 screws and its very sturdy...i had to use a rotor and some creative measurments and drllling to make it flush but its perfect...the wood is painted black so it blends in with the trunk and the amp...all the wires are hidden behind it and it looks really good...its off to the side and bit elevated so it won't get damaged unless i carry a trunk full of baseball bats and it gets great ventilation...i've gotten many compliments on how clean and "professional" it looks

if you're interested let me know and i'll try to take some pics of it

Very interesting ideas...there is a nice groove on the left side of the trunk that would fit nicely. The amp is a Kenwood 729s powering an infinity reference 10" sub. My goal is to make the trunk appear unaltered as much as possible. IOW hide the amp & camouflage the sub.....

-MaxSport730, I'd like to see a pic of your install. This would really help me visualize the setup.

I have my amp hanging upside down from the "rear dashboard". I just drilled holes into the metal and used 4 sheet metal screws. You cant see it unless you actually lay down in my trunk.

i was thinking about doing that but the instruction that came with the amp (rockford) said explicitly that you shouldn't hang the amp upside down...amps should only be mounted face up or vertically

just FYI

Yea, I read that too. (I have a RF 160.2) I just ignored it and did it anyway. I dont push it too much so it still gets air.

I've considered building a 'cradle' and mounting it under the rear deck in the trunk so that it not upside down but still out of sight.

Heat rises, The heat sink might feel cool but that would only be because it is all rising up and being absorbed by the circut board.
