aight...heres the deal..i have the 98 gle with bose..and i've done the search on the head unit replacement..and i saw mixed feelings on replacing ALL the speakers and wiring OR simply getting the adapter for the HU to work with the factory bose speakers can i get some advice from those of you with first hand experience with the HU replacement...and lemme know what i should do..thanx

 

depends on what you want, the Bose speakers are very nice speakers but there are better aftermarket ones. If you want bumpin beats just keep the Bose speakers and get a sub for Sound quality replace em all, I have Eclipse speakers all around and damn I love them very crisp very high quality speakers... but if i just wanted noise I coulda kept the stocks

 

alright...well i eventually wanna change all the speakers..First..what should i be looking to spend for the whole deal (all new speakers) Second...how will my stock speakers sound with a new headunit and the adapter thats available that allows the HU to work with the bose speakers??..thanx

 

hmm with a new head unit I dont think you really will notice a difference with the stock speakers, not 100% sure

my Eclipse speakers went for almost 200 each different models for front and rear

you can get cheaper speakers too no biggie ask maximadave for the hook up he works for Tweeter, thats where I got my system done at- he's a great person do deal with! just PM him with your situation and options

 

The stock speakers will be a little louder/clearer from upgrading the head unit. Keep the stocks 6 speakers, and see how you like it. The adapter-wiring harness is not a huge investment, like $40. The Bose are fine, why replace them if their not blown???

I have a sony Xploid head-unit, stock Bose, and JL audio subs. That setup is more than enough for me.

If I were you, I'd save up for a little longer and replace everything at once, especially if you are not installing yourself. You won't have to pay for any adapters and two installations. I believe that with the adapters that are available you will lose sound quality if you connect your stock Bose to a new headunit. The speakers were meant to go specifically with the stock unit and the adapters don't do the greatest job. As for how much you should spend, that depends. What do you want? You can get 4 good speakers for around $100 a pair, or you could go with some nice components up front and regular coaxials for the rear. A good component setup would start around $200 for figure at least $300 for 4 speakers. Be aware that you probably won't get as much bass as your Bose without a sub though.

 

cool...i think its just a matter of preference from the sound of things..and i really want a new HU this summer...the flip out screen type...so i think im gonna just go with an adapter for now..i know..NO PATIENCE...by the way...any of yall know any good,reasonably priced links that i can check out some of the motorized head units..thanx for the input guys

 

Yeah I can understand that. If by motorized HU you mean the LCD Screens, try carmedia1.com, they sell most of the best LCD screens and have good info on each. I like the Kenwood 911 myself....

 

ya, that kenwood 911 dvd is hella expensive tho.... but i guess thas also everything into one din sized unit, rite? like, it'll replace ur bose head unit for tuner, cd playing, and as well as hab the dvd and flip out screen?

 

I upgraded my BOSE. Took out the head unit and replaced it with a Clarion DXZ815MP. It's a single DIN mp3 CD receiver. Since I kept the stock Bose amps/speakers, I needed an adapter. I bought the best one. PD-4 from auiolink.com. The mps receiver costed $300, the PD-4 costed 170, $470 total. I still have the 200 watt Bose system, so to pseak, but now I have mp3 capability as well as all the new stuff the Clarion gives me. Also, the CD in the 815 sounds waaaay better thru the stock speakers.

Now if I want to add to the system, it's easy as pie. The Calrion 815 has sub-outs and an extra pair of line outs. I'll add a sub later.
