Attaching wooden dowels to trunk floor?

How can I attach some wooden dowels to my trunks floor? Im going to make a fake trunk floor and I need to lift it up a couple inches. The trunk floor is made of a metal or something, so whats the best way to attach them? Im afraid if I nail them in they will fall out.

The key is to use enough of them so they do not need to be attached to the metal. If you use enough dowels the wieght alone should keep it in place

Maybe I'm missing the obvious, but isn't the easy solution to use two pieces of plywood or MDF? Put one on the trunk floor screw the dowels to it and then put another piece of wood on top. That's what I was planning on doing.

well,,,,not sure what you are doing with wooden dows?? but what i did was just took a couple pieces of 1X4's and put one on each side,,,and a couple pieces to frame around the tire access. Actually i trimmed them down to about 3" each (sorta like 1X3's). so the overall height of the false floor is like 4" high. I cut the 1X4's then slapped some plywoon on top of that,,,that gives support all the way around,,,,not some wooden dows....good luck!!,,,,,,DMAN

And the even easier solution would be to strategically attatch the dowels to the bottom of the false floor, NOT the trunk floor!! But seriously, just use some wood screws through the top of the false floor and then into the tops of the dowels. The weight of the floor and the fact that the floor will HOPEFULLY be a somewhat good fit around the outside edges of the trunk should keep it in place. And if rattling is an issue you can attatch some peices of foam rubber to the bottom of the dowels to isolate them from the metal trunk floor.
