Right now I have polk DX components up front powered by a pioneer head. I have an old profile amp lying around. Is it worth hooking my comps up to it or no?

All boils down to the age old issue of power vs. distortion. Without getting too philosophical, you can run two low end speakers off of a clean 100 Watts, and not blow them. Yet, you can run high end speakers off of 50 watts of distorted crap, and blow the hell out of them quickly.

Point is, if your Profile amp has a decent distortion curve (i.e. under .05 or better) then feel free. However, keep in mind that you will fry them badly if the sound is distorted.

I have JL Audio XR series components in my Max, and had an old Kenwood Amp 25 Watts per channel powering them temporarily. Sounded OK, but they would distort badly at higher volumes. I bridged a nicer, but not the best, Rockford Amp into them at 100 Watts a piece and they Scream. Just don't blow your nice Polk components before you decide to get a cleaner amp, if that is your intention. Think ahead as to what your long term plans are, then go from there.
