I DO NOT HAVE an oil cooler, so running 1 quart or 2 of 20-50 can't hurt.
And when qualifying pro (or fanatic) guys run that "light" oil to reduce friction temporarily, but do not run "light" race oil when they are actually racing.
If you get a custom blend of oil (pm me if you really want more info), that oil can be mix of vicosities and types (sythn and non-synth) that they mix for you, your car, your driving style and your preferred method of competition.
Mixing oils is also very common for the vintage car guys when they store their cars for the winter.
The engineers of the VQ got a lot right, you don't think they put 20-50wt in it to test it? The have to advise what is best in the broadest scope of possible conditions, not guys racing a family sedan that happens to come with a 5 spd. The guy or girl just going back and forth to work and to get groceries shouldn't put 20-50 in, but that's where their target is, so that's where they advise from.

The whole point is with todays synthetics, you dont need to mix them with anything in order for them to provide protection and proper lubrication. Even without an oil cooler, they will stand up to a 30min race w/o issue.
