Dash Kit vs. Painting Dash

Who has seen or done one or both?

Experiences?

Is it hard to mess up painting your dash? Do the dash kits crack or fade? Stuff like that...

Pros and cons of each? Installation, etc? Should dash kit be done professionally?

I'm looking to do one or the other and need some advice.

Thanks!

I recently painted the trim in my dash. It's real easy, just remove the trim pieces, scuff lightly and coat with primer, then paint and then clear coat. The only thing to watch for is accidentally cracking the pieces. Another thing is the top two vents in the middle. Take the trim out real carefully to keep the louvre-type plastic thing inside the housing, it's a ***** getting them back together.

Painting interior

Wuts up, i took out all of my interior peices that i wanted to paint and i was wondering what you meant when you said scuff the pieces. And also how many layers of paint did you put on the peices and did you put primer on after each layer. And do u have any pics?

Scuff them up to help the paint stick i.e. light sanding.

HOW MANY COATS OF PAINT TO USE

When i paint the interior should i paint it more then once. I was told that i should put the primer on and then the paint. And then let it dry and paint it again. And that i should do that 8 or nine times to each peice. I dunno if that is the right way to do it. Can sokmeone give me steps on how to do it so it comes out looking Great. Please can somebody help me.!!!!!

Take out everything you would like to paint, find a VERY fine grit sandpaper and scuff the surface. It must be fine so you don't get big nasty scratches in the trim. Primer, 2 coats. As for paint, 2-3 costs should be ok, unless you feel you need more. I used a clear acrylic coating to finish each piece. I only used 3 or 4 coats and I am happy wiht the results. This is up to you, do 10 coats if you want.
I promise I'll post pictures soon on my Cardomain site.

If you're going to paint it I would go with
the G2 interior carstyling sprays. Good stuff.

So this painting method is better than and cheaper than the stick on applications??? There are no cracks or chips? Doesn't fade with heat?

Yeah it is really good. Just make sure that you coat the surfaces at least 3 times. When i say that i mean spray paint it and let it dry. and then spray paint it again. And keep on repeating this.
