I had to replace the driver seat (it iis really just a cover) on my 2000 GLE less than a year after purchase (it was new).

The little pieces of leather were teating between each stitch along the seam between the side panel and and the part that rests against your ribs.

Dealer replaced without question, although it took more than a month to get it right. First time they ordered the dark grey (my seats are beige) and then they ordered wrong seat (passenger instead of driver).

No problems with the others and with the replacement.

Use LEXOL.....it's by far the best stuff for leather...Keeps it from cracking and leaves it nice and soft...it also doesn't leave that wet look like some other leather conditioners. GREAT STUFF!!!

My old 4th gen had a tan interior and a very worn out tint due to the Texas sun so mine ended up cracking on the edge of both front seats.

just use lexol once a month and you can use the seat for how ever you want.
Also the turtle wax 2001(Green bottle) is nice, it shines it and makes it looks nice.

I have a 2k1 that unfortunately lives outside in the nasties, but about a month and a half after I bought my car I had it Tinted with FormulaOne 100 percent UV block. And I use both lexol and tanner's preserve on the leather and no cracks or discoloring. I am going to be replacing the front seats with Corbeau TRS leathers soon and that should help keep my stock seat from any damage

Just like the old girls on the beach that are cracking and worn, sun protection is the number one thing, followed closely by conditioning. Especially the desert southwest or any place really dry.

Driver's seat shows a few wrinkles, but for the most part looks and even still smells new.

ok just for some visual reference.. here is how mine looks after 80k. pics are a few months old but there is no change. i've circled the areas of excessive wear since it's hard to see with cardomain's shrunken images.. but it's standing out in person big time.

the bolster area is unavoidable-especially if you are a wide person-they get crushed by your thighs and entering/leaving car

a good leather conditioner with moisturizer might help it but if you live in a climate that has variable temps, its really unavoidable

EvilRoadsVictim's interior looks like mine froom day one...and he's a 2000!!!...I have black interior and I *THINK*, and someone please confirm, the interior of the 2k2s and 2k3s looks like its all cracked and wrinkled. Its not smooth leather as seen in most cars...I've had Dee-Max for 2.5 years and since day one I've been using Meguiar's gold class conditioner 2/year....The interior has a neutral smell, although on hot days it smells like new....

In all honesty, I like the look of the "worn-cracked" look on the interior....still looks "new" and it will definetly hide cracks....the only problem I have is the warping were my azz is....

I use harlem furniture conditiponer now that i get it for free when my bottle gets empty. Well, before, I used Lexol and it is just as great. But I think harlem furniture conditioner is the best because it was made specially for my italian leather sofa.

I use the Meguiars 2 step and i notice the same. Our leathers should hold up very well as long as you use SOMETHING on it. Now if anyone has a tear in the leather thats another issue.
