I have a variation to the above question. What is the best wax to use by hand? Doesn't look like I'll be able to buy a PC any time soon. Also, is scratch X easy to apply by hand, If not is there a similar product thats easy to apply?
Well guys, the answers to your questions are different because the "best" wax for you is determined by the color of your car. For black cars, Zaino and Pinnacle Souveran are two favorites for their deep liquid shine. For white cars, Pinnacle Paste glaze is an excellent choice due to it's bright shine.
If by best you mean longevity, check out Klasse and Zaino. Both last for 6 months!

Forgot to mention - the results of your wax job are only as good as your preparation. Be sure to clay your whole car before you wax. Clay Magic is my favorite and can be found at AutoZone. Also, a good polish is a great idea before waxing as well.

.......there is no such thing as a "stupid question" when it comes to detailing. Many of us are not sure of what to use or how to use it properly. That does not give us "veterans" the right to flame someone if they ask a question that is simple to us. We need to be cognizant of the fact that we were once newbies and needed a "vet" to give us a hand. Any thread flaming a newbie will have the offending posts removed....

I was more hoping that he'd ask "why?" to be honest.

I use Ibiz and the stuff rocks. I haven't used it by hand in a while, but when I did it was very easy to apply and remove. It does a good job at removing minor blemishes and stuff, plus it leaves the paint feeling very smooth. It's good stuff.
Well let me shed a little light on this. Everyone has their own definitions of a "best wax" based on their own experiences and/or opinions. That is what Bman was trying to point out when he made the above response.
But I have used several different waxes in my lifetime and my faves are S100 and Souveran. One wax that does get overlooked is One Grand Blitz because it is a rather durable wax. Meguiar's #26 is a good wax as well.
However, one must remember that a wax alone is not going to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. There is a process that must be followed in order to achieve the results.
