Tips & Tricks
Orange Glow Foam
Use this for any stains on the carpet or rugs. Just spray on a thin layer and use a soft white cloth and wipe it. It works on grease and dirt. Its EZ, very EZ since the Orange Glow does most of the work and all you have to do is wipe it dry.
Pros:
-EZ, EZ, EZ
-Works on all the dirt, grease, gum, pop stains on my carpet/rugs
-Works better than most car carpet cleaners I've used and those you have to friggen scrub HARD
Cons:
-Smells like orange in the car, but it goes away if you leave the windows open for awhile to let the breeze in
-Orange Glow is expensive IMHO

how do you clean the front center armrest, with vinyl cleaner? and what about the plastic panels all around the car, by where you step in and rest you feet, mine have scrapes and dirt all over already.
As for the step areas, look through this thread dude. Tuff Stuff has been reccomended, although I just use an eraser, or just some 409. Works fine for me. As for the center console, yeah I use Meguiars vinyl/rubber protectant, works well and the smell is nice, not oppressive. You can get it right now @ Pep Boys for like 3.99 I believe. It's a steal at that price. BTW, Meguiar's quik detail is on sale now too!
Well, I have the car polished and waxed
Now it's time for the interior. Well I have a few questions. One is that my signal light switch is turning white. I notice this happens when things set out in the sun too long. I had a 93 max this happened to, and I armouralled it. It turned out fine for a few weeks but then faded again. I was wondering how to restore this. Two, my instrument gage plastic has microscratches. Any way to get these out? This forum has been a big help. Thanks

Washing your Car
Car soap with cold water in a plastic bucket. Use 100% cotton towels. Any brand of car soap should be fine as long as it is for cars. Dishwashing soap will strip your car's finish of all wax and leave a very dull finish. Wash in sections and rinse with clean water. Do not let the soap dry for too long as it may leave spots. Dry with 100% cotton towels.
Pre-wax prep
If your finish is dull and rough, you may need to use a clay bar. Mothers makes a good one. You use the clay bar with a quick detailing spray product. This will remove oxidation and other contaminants. You may want to clay your car maybe once a year or so.
Now you want to polish your car before waxing it. Depending on the condition of the finish, you will use different products.
*Meguiars Fine Cut Cleaner - Use only if finish is really negelected. Will remove imperfections and small scratches.
*Meguiars #9 Swirl Remover - If you have swirl marks, use this to remove them.
* Meguiars #7 Show Car Glaze - A polish that will remove slight imperfections and will leave a very nice shine.
* 3M Imperial Hand Glaze - Much like #7 Show car glaze. Some say it is even better.
you want to polish maybe once every two months or so. Use a towel to apply the stuff and let it sit for like 30 minutes. Buff with a cotton towel linearly in one direction (not circles).
Waxing
After polishing you want to wax your car to protect the shine. There are several waxes out there from synthetic (like Zaino) to carnauba based natural. I have had good experience with Meguiars #26 Hi-tech yellow wax. Apply it using a towel or sponge applicator. Buff off with another cotton towel. You can wax every time you wash your car ad you should wax every time after polishing it. These types of natural waxes last about a month or two before needing another coat. If you build up several coats, it will last a bit longer. Synthetics will last longer.
Vinyl/Rubber
Meguiars #40 Vinyl/Rubber treatment is a really good product. It will leave a nice shine, but is not greasy at all. You can use this on your tires also if you want, but it works better on your dashboard and other vinyl surfaces.
Rims
Don't use anything harsh. Just clean with water, car soap, and a towel or brush. Wax the finished portion of the wheel with the same wax you use on your finish.
again, these are the things I do and products that I have found to be very good. I am sure there are several products out there that do a similar job.

1st washing - brand new Maxima
I'm picking up a new 2003 Maxima SE this week (my first Maxima), and I really want to do this right.
What special or different procedures do you suggest for washing a car fresh off the lot?

Items you'll need:
2 buckets (One with shampoo solution, the other with clear water)
Chenille Mitt
Meguiar's Gold Class Shampoo
Clay Magic Clay Bar Kit
A good cleaner e.g. Pinnacle Paint Cleansing Lotion, Klasse All In One)
(Optional) Klasse Sealant Glaze
(Optional) Pinnacle Liquid Souveran, Pinnacle Paste Glaz
It's never too early to start protecting your finish. A month after I got my '02, I did the following:
Washed with Meguiar's Gold Class Shampoo
Cleaned wheels and tires with Eimann Fabrik Hi Intensity. I also washed the wheelwells.
Dried with a California Water Blade and my chamois
Clayed car with Clay Magic kit
Cleaned my windows with Stoner's Invisible Glass and a microfiber towel
Cleaned the interior vinyl and plastic using Lexol Leather Cleaner and used 303 protectant to treat the dash
Polished car with Klasse All-In-One
Waxed car with Pinnacle Souveran
Take a look at this: http://www.nissanx.com/f0rums/thread...ardid=3&page=2 to get an idea.
neo-suede
I have a 2001 SE with cloth seats. The seating surface, according to the brochure, is Neo-Suede while the rest of the seat is velour. Has anyone used any upholstery cleaners that is safe for this type of material? I looked at some upholstery cleaners in Pep Boys, Kragen, etc., some states specifically not to use their product on suede. I am not comfortable to use the others that does not state otherwise. Appreciate any advice you may have. Thanks...
Easy dry
When you are finished washing your car and it is completely covered in water, remove the spray nozzle from your hose. Then turn the water on and just let the hose pour gently on your car without a nozzle or holding your finger over it.
For some reason, with a decent coat of wax, the water just completely beads right off. You will still have to towel dry your car, but instead of using two giant towels, you will only need one or two small hand towels.

PrinzII,
Thanks for the suggestion. Is CMA the only place to get EF or is it available at auto parts stores (i.e. Kragen, Pep Boys, Autozone, etc.)? Thanks again......

I wish someone would break this thread down into interior/exterior wash.
Having a hard time cleaning the top of the side windows from the window run (rubber) marks. Also, no commercially available carpet cleaners are good enough. Just got one and it just spread the dirt and soaked it in, amde things much worse.

especially the windshield, here's a tip.
Using a spray bottle with windex or window cleaner of choice, spray down the windows and dry/clean with wadded up newspaper, the more black and white print the better and stay away from the glossy multi-color inserts in the Sunday paper.
I use this inside and out on the windshield and it's streak-free, and with discretion on tint using only water as my cleanser.

For one thing, you don't have to wait for S100 to haze before removal. You can remove it immediately after applying it. Another one is that it's got a nice gloss (comparable to Souveran).
S100=P21S it's the same exact thing I've been told by a reliable source and the only difference is packaging and price. S100 is a little lower.
I would recommended the cleaner and the polish products as well.

KFL is right. For a decent priced wax, S100 is the best bang for the buck. Right behind that is P21S.

Something else to consider...I use this on my bike all the time (all over but it works real good on the wheels, which nothing gets dirtier faster)
Micro-pel...it's not widely sold, and is usually used for industrial sized printing and copying machines, but the stuff works wonders and will clean anything.
Would probably work great on rims and the engine cover.

Car Cleaning
I've owned a transport truck wash, and car wash for many years. I've processed 1000's of trucks each year, and have had very few complaints (unless a crew member missed washing part of a truck). Our procedure was simple. Pressure wash all the heavy dirt off (if any). If not, just soak down the vehicle. Put a couple of squirts of dishwashing liquid into a 5 gallon bucket. (The kind made for handwashing dishes). Get a window washing brush, or car wash brush at the end of a 4 foot handle. Dip the brush into the bucket, and soap down the the vehicle from the highest point to the lowest. Rinse the vehicle by flooding with water, no nozzel please. Rinse it before the soap has a chance to dry.
The 4 foot handle on the brush will let you do the whole roof, hood and trunk of a car from one side, and the sides of the car without bending. The dish soap will make the car gleam like a shiny new dish. I've never seen it remove wax used in the concentration i'm suggesting. Rinsing without the nozzle will let the water sheet right off, so there won't be any water spots. No need to use a chamois or waste time drying.
If you get some grease on cloth seats or on the carpets, put a few drops of the same liquid soap on the spot, and rub it with a clean dry sponge. It will be gone in seconds.

Zaino,Zymoil,Klasse,3M etc Wax test
Like everyone who owns a Max, I wanted the best shine possible.
I researched all over the web and came across this site which,to me, had the best test and information available. My take away is you can get 95% of the shine for 50% of the cost. Here's the wax/polish test

Has anyone ever heard of Dri-Wash-N-Guard? It is a waterless car wash/polish/sealant. I am a distributer of it and it works great. Here is the website for some more info.
