Local automotive parts store that carries auto collision supplies. Thats how I got all my 3M products and Meguiars Pads.

 

Looks great! My PC is easily the best detailing investment I've made. I get my pads on line. Check out autopia for some links to internet sellers.

how often are you suppose to change the pads?

 

Pads should last about 20 uses. They must be cleaned after each use.

Yeppers. Sonus has a wash or you can use car wash or Dawn.

 

I wouldn't use Dawn or any other dish soap, unless you're 100% sure all of the residue has been rinsed out before using it again.

 

Anyone else find that a regular hose is enough to clean off their pads? I've used this method all the time and have had no problem. I've never had to use soap to clean them.

 

I usually clean them in the basement laundry sink. Sometimes just water is enough but I have used a bit of car wash soap at times.

 

I spray them clean with the hose and dry them on the PC @ 6. Works like a charm and i've been doing it that way for the last 5 years.

 

just got the porter cable today as well as clay bar and meguiars 3 step system. i dont want to spend 50 bux on pads from internet cuz thats too much and i dont have time to wait for them to come in cuz i wanna finish everything within 2 days. would the pepboys bonnets and stuff work? dunno what to go with?? i wish i had the time to get the sonus kit

 

I don't think the stuff from Pep Boys will work on the PC. You need pads with a hook and loop attaching system. Pads run $8 to $10 each and you'll need 3 different types. There are very few retail places that carry PC specific pads. Internet places are you're best bet, but you'll have to wait more than 2 days.

 

that sux i was talkin about the applicators that hook on to the pad provided.....

i was just practicing using it on some flat surface. it seems very easy to use other than the fact that it likes to bounce up when exposed to a surface. lol

 

The 'applicators' are called pads. The 'pad' you mention is called the backing plate.

It is virtually foolproof to use. You don't really need to practice. It won't bounce when you have the pads and polish on it.

I love black cars. Have you had a chance to compare Klasse and Zaino at all? I have did it on a black land rover and all I can say is that I really and truly love Zaino.

After you have had some time with the Porter Cable you should add a Makita 9227c to your collection as the PC does not have the power of the Makita. however the use of the two of the cannot be beat!

Thanks! This past weekend I detailed my wifes car (2004 Forester XT). I learned a lot from the first two times using the PC. PUPP seems pretty similar to Zaino, it leaves a silky smooth finish and deep shine. PUPP can be layered as well. I'll post some pics of the Forester later.
