rain-x

anybody ever use this? i've used it once, but haven't done it since, because afterwards, my windows were extremely difficult to dry off and my windshield wipers got all smudgy because the treatment seems like it's oil based....i sorta want to try it again, but i'm afraid i'll see the same results...

I've gotten the same result every time I've used that kind of product.

I now just use a windshield polish and keep it clean with Stoners Glass Cleaner afterwards. Use an alcohol wipe to clean off the wiper blade on occasion.

I've had good results waxing the window too. Especially the side windows.

Rain-X is amazing! I applied some to my windows in December, and the water still beads up and flies off. However, when I wipe off my windows, they get really streaky and foggy looking. I'm not sure if this is because of Rain-x or because I don't know how to dry windows. The product is still excellent. Also, how often are you supposed to reapply the stuff? Like I said before, it's still working after two months, so I'm guessing it need not be applied that often?

I use it all the time and I love it.

Never had a problem with it... Actually its the only reason I did not smash my own windshield and get a new one, it was covered in this film that would not come off with any cleaner I used. I went to advanced auto to ask them if they knew of anything and he pointed me to RainX, worked perfect.

i use rain-x windshield washer fluid. it helps a lot in the rain. i don't notice any smudging or haziness that some are referring too.

A long time ago I applied some stuff called Rain Vision to my windshield. Best stuff ever. I could be going 25mph in a fine mist and it would still bead up and run off, or I could be going 60-70 in a torential downpoor and still see perfectly. Sucks... they don't make it anymore. Rain-x doesn't work nearly as good. still better than nothing. I wonder if anyone has found something better than rain-x

rain-x is a great product.. i've used the normal application method (little bottle that you rub on), the windshield washer fluid and the windshield washer fluid additive. i'd recommend either of the latter 2 if you're having issues with the original. it works great, especially at higher speeds (50+)... you don't have to use your whipers as much which by themselves reduce visibility.

Aquapel is the alternative and some people like it better.

I'm a RainX user though.

if you don't mind me asking, what was the procedure and what were the materials you used to apply it? I just applied a little to a microfiber cloth and rubbed it in pretty good....the water beads up pretty good on my entire car (paint and windows) already, but when it's kind of misty, i'm forced to use my crappy wipers, which sometimes does more bad than good in clearing up my view

its been a while since i've used the original out of the bottle stuff, but nothing fancy... i think i put a light layer of it over with a terry towel then buffed it in with another. for just a light mist, you have to be going at a good clip (i.e. highway speeds) for any product like rain-x to have an effect. i actually like rain-x the most for this type of weather because whipers are always streak free. for your whipers, maybe try cleaning them off with some rubbing alcohol? either way, you don't need very fancy whiper blades with rain-x, cheap NAPA ones would work well

I've done it to my cars, and it works great! It works so good that in light rain the wipers are not needed! Everything just beeds up.
One thing to keep in mind is, that before you apply it the windows have to be very clean. Has any one used rainx fog (notsure of the name) on the inside of their windows?

Instead of rain-x I use... (drumroll) PIAA super sporza wipers! Well, you can also get super-silicone, as they'll have the same effect, but (and this actually works) they leave a microscopic layer of silicone on your windshield each time they wipe, and rain beads up and rolls off just fine at higher speeds. This might not be as effective as rain-x or some of the other stuff, but it also lets the wipers glide across your windshield (when you actually need them) with no chatters, and personally I sort of like using my windshield wipers. Maybe that part's just me.

Oh yeah, they're also a tad expensive.... got mine for $44/pr shipped...

Rain-X is a good product. Most people apply it wrong, that's the problem. Clean the windows thoroughly first. Wipe on the Rain-X with a cloth, not a paper towel. The glass should now be hazy, do not wipe off right away, let it sit for a few minutes. Buff it off with a clean cloth.

been using rain-x for the longest time. the best way I have found to apply it is to clean the windows first. Apply rain-x to all the windows. By the time you make your way around the car, you should see it haze-up. From there, wash your car and windows normally. I learned this from another detailing forum. Before learning that, I ran into all the problems everyone has listed (i.e. hazing, smudging, hard to remove, etc.). hope this helps...

I do it like BK1 said. Start at the right side winshield, apply with a good cloth. Work my way around the car. By the time I get back to the right side windshield it's all hazed. I then spritz a small amount of water on the spot and wiped it down with a new cloth. Always comes out good for me. Lasts a good amount of time too.
