The Squeak

So my one windshield wiper will not stop squeaking, it's getting ridiculous. I've been reading different ways in which to stop the squeak off the internet and so far nothing has worked.

I've tried windexing the hell out of my windshield, spraying WD-40 on a towel and wiping the blade with it, and i've also switched the blades around.

Anyone have any suggestions? It's obvious that it's one side of my windshield, but i have no idea how to stop it. It also only squeaks on the way down, not on the way up.

I've found that treating your windshield with Rain X can help. You can also try waxing it if the Rain X doesn't work. If the blade (s) continue to squeak, take them off, do a burn out on them, and try some OEM refill ones (that is if your not using them now). If you you've tried this already, then

clearly, a new wiper would do the trick.. but one thing I have always done is use ammonia on a paper towel and then wipe the blade firmly. You will be amazed at all the dirt which comes off your blade. I imagine this would dry out the rubber more quickly than water, but I usually change my wipers every year or so anyway.

Give it a shot.

I have purchased new wipers actually. No change at all. I tried WD 40 on the blade and it only made it worse, until the WD 40 wore off. I'm convinced that it has something to with my windshield. I've tried different blades, wiping them with all sorts of ****, nothing has worked so far.

I'm gonna pick up some Rain X soon and see how well that works.

What kind of blades did you just buy? Ever since going to OEM refills, I've had narry a squeak from them. I used to go back and forth from the Bosch and the Anco ones, but after a while they'd drive me cookoo sqeakin like a bastard. I hope the Rain X helps though.

It's worked well for me. I also use the RainX Wiper Blades and they're a match made in heaven.

Did you try pull the arm up and wipe it without the blade? Maybe it's the arm making the squeaking and not the blade? The same squeaking happen to me on my 97 maxi and I through it was the blade making the noise but after all it's the arm......

Try polishing the windshield. An aggressive paint polish like Meg's DACP or even a rubbing compound will work. After polishing, treat the windshield with Rain X.
I use rubbing alcohol ocassionally to clean my wiper blades. It takes off the "dead" rubber to reveal fresh rubber. And everytime I clean my glass (about daily), I use the rag to wipe the crud off of my wiper blades as the final step.
