Skipped polishing - any ill effects?

Hey there folks....

Over the weekend, I clayed my Max with Clay Magic and then waxed with Meguiars Gold Class. I am pleased with the results - the surface is new car smooth with a great shine. I did end up skipping the polish step however, since it was a bit late in the night and I didn't have polish to use. Are there any problems in doing this?

What's a good polish to use? For the next time I'm looking at the Meguiars Deep Crystal System Polish.

Thanks

many people never polish. it's that extra step to make it look even better.

Although you don't HAVE to polish, it will make the finish look much better. Your Sterling Mist (and all lighter colors) are fairly good at hiding swirl marks and other defects. I polish about every 3 months because black shows EVERY little swirl.

Thanks...I do agree - the Sterling Mist does hide the scratches and swirls very well. What do you recommend I do now? Should I remove the wax, polish and then rewax or just keep it as is - maybe an another extra coat of Gold Class?

I guess I'm just worried that the wax will wear out too quickly and then end up exposing the clearcoat to elements. I was thinking the polish provides that extra layer of protection.

Polish does just that, polish. It does nothing to protect the paint. Wax does this.

Right. Polishes are for correction purposes, not protection. And BTW, the Deep Crystal Polish is a non-abrasive polish, so it will do no true polishing. It contains paint cleaners and fillers, which means it will be able to remove a little bit of oxidation, and fill in some swirls. But Gold Class has both of those abilities, as does NXT. I see no benefit in using both the DC Polish and Gold Class, because the cleaners in Gold Class will remove the DC Polish's fillers anyway.
