Filter to prevent water spotting?

Hey Guys, lately the chlorine levels in our water system here seemed to have been increased and unless I use a chamois (shammy?) after every wash I have these nasty white water spots. Does anyone have a remedy for this? Such as inline hose filter? thanks

Black cars are a PITA to keep clean as it is without having to dealing with water spots!

The chlorine content has nothing to do with the water spots. It is the dissolved mineral content that leaves the spots. A water softener would cut way down on the water spots but not totally as softeners do not remove all of the impurities in the water. I recommend using some method of getting the water off of your car after every wash to prevent any build-up on the surface. I used to get free deionized water while I worked in industrial water treatment and miss it very much. All I had to do was rinse and walk away. Come back an hour later and no spots. One of the things I miss about my old job.

There are inline cannister filter systems available. I think Autogeek has everything you need for it. I would probably check Home Depot first to see if they have something that you can use strictly for your outdoor water system.

there are two things you can try..

1. mr clean auto wash system.. the gun you get sprays a regular water rinse, foamed soap wash, and has a deionzed water setting.. it works with a PuR water filter.. 20 bucks.. totally worth it..

2. after you wash your car, rinse it with the spray, then take off the sprayer, and let the water roll off on the car at like decent angle.. that water will sheet most of the existing water off leaving you with barely anything to dry off

if you have any issues or need to see #2 in action... www.meguiars.com... check out the videos section

I blot excess with microfibre or plush terrycloth towels.

I wash and rinse my car off with hose only (no nozzle) so water dropplets don't accumulate. It tends to sheet off the car and whatever remaining water puddles are blotted dry. I also wash during the evening out of direct sunlight so water doesn't have a chance to dry on the paint surface.

The easiest way to not have your car spot while washing it (regardless of color)

1) Wash in the shade AND dry in the shade
2) Wash top to bottom using a high quality soap
3) Use a nozzle with a "shower" setting, this way you get the sheeting action as well as water beads to break up anything stuck on the surface
4) Use a water blade to dry the majority of the car, then touch up with a high quality (and clean) chamois or High quality waffle weave towel (again, make sure its clean and has been washed WITHOUT any fabric softener)
4a) Use wax as u dry (nice for washes in between waxes) with a clean high quality chamois, then follow with a clean high quality waffle weave towel
5) Crack open a beer (or beverage of choice) and marvel at your car washing genius

I just hate using a chamois it's time consuming and I always have to wash the wife's minivan also, the Max being black I seem to have to wash the car every 2 or 3 days PITA, so I was hoping to find a filter system of some kind so I wouldn't have to dry the car. Last black car I had was a 300ZX TT and after I sold it I vowed to never own a black car again. ...... they just look so dam good though!
