price of painting!
i love when people go overboard on clear.unless its a car your not gonna drive to many coats of clear is actually a bad thing it actually becomes more brittle and actually chips easier. 2 coats is more than enough unless your gonna wetsand then a third wet coat is good but by the time your done you end up with about two. especially with susp parts they are definitly gonna chip.
IMO after the 3rd coat you're just wasting the material
ya i got the front and rear bumper done and thy used 2 coats of clear and baked it..cam out mint..they matched the color perfectly..im happy..and ya i hear ppl at car shows sayin ya i have 7 coats of clear..im just like what the fu*k is up with that..idk to whos its own..im guess they just want it so when ppl ask they can almost brag about what they have.."oh you have 2 coats ,i have 7,mine shines betta"....rrrriiiiggghhht lol
You are right, 2-3 coats of clear is enough and most people wouldn't want to pay for an extra 3 coats of clear, but let's put it that way, I prefer to put more clear since I dont pay for the labor as I'm the painter. If the car get hit by a stone chip it wont reach the paint level, so just a light buffing will bring back the finish without having to do a paint touch up.
I also painted all the suspension parts like the spindle and those being made of cast iron rust almost instantly when in contact with water, so putting few extra coats of clear ensure that they will stay clean and wont rust for a long time to come. They also look very good true the wheel and will be very easy to clean with a light soap and a pressure washer. Dont forget that my Maxima si now on just show/summer car that will go out on the very nice summer day.
