95 5spd- VQ35 Swap

Its my 1995 SE 5spd. 131k miles on the car, 40k on the motor. Motor was packed with sludge from the dumb@$$ previous owner never changin the oil in the 40k miles, so right now its running a qt of ATF and castrol 10W-30 dino oil. After this oil change I'll bump it up to Mobil1.

Mods concerning drivetrain are as follows...
- Short Ram Bomz Intake
- Modified 3.5 E-TB
- VI is inoperative at the moment (no rpm switch) so its full open
- Ebay Greddy knock off AFPR
- WS Ypipe
- Gutted cat
- Motostorm UDP
- Spec Stage2 Clutch
- Apex'i SAFC
- 3.0 stock headers

The 1st run I had 214WHP-216WTQ, with the a/f PIG RICH in the 10s and even off the scale in the 4grand region. So after some tuning I got this...

Yup! I need a window switch to hold this VI closed in the midrange! That dip in the TQ is NASTY. Ive never seen a dyno of a 3.5 swap that shows exactly how much of an effect the VI has on the midrange if its open constantly like mine. Quite interesting.

Also, whats handwritten at the bottom is the correction I did to get the a/f where it is there. BTW, I have an exhaust leak at the rear headers, so I may be richer than wat the tail sniffer is showing.

There is still more power to be had here. Once the exhaust leak is fixed, spark plugs are changed (yes, I did this in a rush, the old fouled up plus are still there), and I get a window switch, its gonna be more of a monster .

Sorry no run files. For pix of the setup, refer to the AllMotor forums. I will be putting up pictures of the setup this weekend sometime with credits to all who helped.

Mods: VQ35, JWT ECU, VQ30 Exhaust Manifold, y-pipe

I don't have a SAE corrected, but here is the uncorrected chart.

Blue line: Stock with y-pipe and JWT ECU
Green: VI Open all the time (like your run)
Red: VI Closed all the time

wtfmate! How is that full open? you are holding, even MAKING more power in the same gap (3000-4200) as I loose power? Most people with it running open constant do say that they feel a dip in power at the 3 grand region (Goaliekeg for example). I felt the same, didnt think it was going to be as bad as shown in my dyno though. The fact that you are BUILDING power in that region with it open is shocking to me.

Could it have something to do with it being the spot (3000RPM) where the ECU makes the switch from closed to open loop? Do you know exactly how much timing you have programmed into your JWT ECU?

You can't compare dyno graphs due to his JWT ECU. But you already knew that...

My really late reply....for that dyno run, I was running the normal "cookie cutter" jwt ecu for a 95-96 max, albeit mine also has the nitrous daughter board.
