My Dyno run and my VQ35 weird problem!

I have 2004 Altima 3.5l with 4AT and I believe it's similar to the Maximas with VQ35DE

I dyned my car (DynoJet) and got only 220whp & im not satisfied with that

me and my friend have the same car and almost same mods which are:
-True dual Exhust
- Headers from ebay
- Injen CAI
- NWP Spacer
- VIAS removal
- UR Pully
- Apexi AFC Neo

the problems are:
1- low gains!! not as we expected!!
2- The A/F almost perfect before the tuning so I didn't get benfit from the AFC Neo!!

the dyno sheet and you can see the A/F is almost perfect without tuning the AFC Neo!!

Solutions we attempted:
1- changed the spark plugs and coils => noticed a little difference
2- changed the front o2 sensors => nothing changed at all!
3- tried another maf => little differnce noticed

but we never dynod the car again
also
any car like me with the same mods can beats the hell of me

I really appreciate your help & comments
this problem drive us crazy

A34 ECU > *

I would like to see an upstream AFR curve, but even then it still will be flat, whatever the actual value maybe.

LOL!!!! Dude those were only like $250 actually they have some on there for $72.....that's your problem you get what you pay for and that definitely is probably junk...also the pic doesn't look equal length to me...go out and spend some real money and then re-dyno then you will be much happier

edit: also try doing the full SSIM mod instead of just removing the VIAS...it's a lot better and still free...and along with that get either the TS L-spec or F-spec for even more gains....I say with good headers/full SSIM/L-spec you should be easy 250whp

It is me with the same problem. My air/fuel ratio may not be as straight, but i have about the same hp #'s. I peak 219hp @5600 with hotshot headers but fully functional VIAS(234 torque@4000). The tuner tried to tune my car with the apexi. He would tune one rpm segment and it threw the whole air/fuel graph from 4000 all the way up past 6000 out of wack and i lost power. He also finally got my ratio straight across 13 and still lost power.
We both are losing alot of power 5k and beyond. Maybe the initial setup of our apexis??
ps when i get my scanner working i will put up my dyno.

Try and get the actual files. We need more information on your car, year etc. And it's difficult to say anything with a graph of anything right now.

You need to gut that manifold. Simply removing the VIAS valve wont do anything other than hamper your midrange (which looks pretty healthy as a matter of fact, gotta love your midrange timing to make up for it, lol). If you did that, you'd get rid of that dip in power after 6k and overall the graph would look healthier.

But really so far so good

I don't think the problem I'm talking about caused by those cheap headers
my friend up here "Maximum96" has the same isses with the hotshot headers!

can you please give me more info about the full SSIM? any links explain it?

Well I do, and HS are equal length, yours aren’t. I put down 233 with only header and a POP charger. That tells you something about equal length headers.

Unless you've betrayed your engine, mileage doesn't count (93k) IMO. I have 98k and she's still strong as hell. You must have installed them incorrectly or overlooked something because headers wont make you lose power.

Have any pics of that true dual exhaust? What's the diameter of the piping?

I agree with the rest of the guys on the headers. Good headers make power on our engines. Just look at the debacle that Stillen put out. They did nothing for the VQ35.

wow thats good numbers but on which dyno ?

about the headers, i agree with you guys that good headers will give you more power especially on the vq but the real problem here about the A/F ratio and how the hell they almost balanced!

also as my friend Maimum96 said he has Hotshot headders and he have almost the same low hp numbers!!

so there is somthing wrong with our cars!

my money , my time all wasted for 220 whp ?

Pretty sure a MAF mod would fix that problem.

My point was all those mods don't really do much, meaning money well spent on headers even if they are your only mod (quality)

but at least we should be approximatley on the 230 to 245 range!

I will check everything one by one
but I don't have time and money right now

just to check the installation or how our cars get dynoed maybe there was an error
can any body explain this:
" I will assume that you have it wired in properly, if you do not, there are plenty of directions in the VFAQ. Also, may I suggest that you DO NOT do the "blue wire mod", it has been proven to degenerate the O2 sensor's signal.
"

I took it from a website about piggyback Tuning guide!

Wishful thinking there. I’m @ 242, and well, my mod list is quite extensive compared to yours. O2 sensors have no ‘say so’ (input) in WOT (dyno) situations. You need better headers.

so the O2 doesn't affect the hp numbers on dyno.

as far as I know , currently there are no good quality headers for our vq35de fwd

Thx a lot NmexMAX,

I agree your numbers are low for those mods. I have a 04 Max Auto w/ F5CAI, SP-2Exhaust, Kintex Intake, Cattman y-pipe and my timing retarded 2 degrees and I put down 215WHP and 211TQ. Headers could be your issue. But your true duals may be the problem that's where you could be losing power because of back pressure and piping diameters. Do you have a X-pipe?

I see also your numbers are low! 215 WHP and 211 TQ ? do you agree ?

how did you play the timing ? do you have an engine managment ?

I will dyno my car soon with the same mod list except the exhust I changed it to the new Magnaflow catback
(but actually I feel with the true dual exhust I feels more power!)

and yes I had a x-pipe with the TD exhust.

1) You shouldn't have removed the VIAS.
2) eBay headers are garbage, buy a real set that are equal length.
3) Injen CAI is a torque robber. You're better off with a short-ram that has a velocity stack and venturi ring (I think JWT does this), or stock.
4) What brand exhaust?

Your cheap headers and the TD may be creating all of the issues, imo.

I just looked at their website, and they mostly carry Megan sh*t for VQ35s. I really can't believe you'd buy something from them. You have a nice car, why buy garbage for it?

thx for your comments.
1) why I shouldn't remove the VIAS ? is there a problem of that?
2) when I saw the headers it looked to ma not bad actually!
3) I changed the Injen CAI to berk v2 WAI
4) Custom true dual exhust with x-pipe

I will redyno my car with the VIAS + New Intake Berk V2 + New Magnaflow catback

believe me, i saved a lot of $$ to buy a really good quality headers (hotshot)but as you know they are no longer in the market

so if you know any good headers for the vq35de fwd let me know please

Ok, NYPD, get in touch with the A34 world.

Injen's intake for the Altima/6th gen maxima IS a good intake, it;s not like the 5th gen unit, it's actually a good intake, not a torque robber.

And for the millionth time, yes there are equal length headers out there for the FWD VQ35DE, Cattman comes to mind, but your statement is flawed since your car is not a typical FWD, it's an Altima, which is essentially a 6th gen max, look around there are knock offs and Cattman should come out with some in the near future.

In the meantime, keep in touch with the classifieds.

I have a stock muffler on mine, and it's still single exhaust so, don't mess around with catbacks since even our measly single (5.5 gen) stock catback can support nearly 250fwhp, so unless you think you're making upwards of that, leave it alone.

I thought the DE in the 5.5 gen and 2002-04 3rd gen Altima were the same? And then for 2005 they updated it a bit (245HP to 250).

Actually my numbers are on target for my mods because of my timing being retarded 2 degrees. I had the timing pulled back with Technsquare Reflash my timing and fuel maps are set lower than the stock settings so that's why my dyno numbers are on target. I dont have Headers, No Engine Management, No UDP, No SAFC, and No NWP spacers the Headers alone should get you 20-25WHP dyno proven. (just because it feels like your making more power doesn't mean you are) I spoke on the true duals from past experience because I lost power with mine on my Max which I removed immediately.

thx guys for sharing your info.

I will redyno very soon with the new setup excluding the headers
and I will see if the problem was from the true dual exhaust or the headers is the only real issue here

thx all

I changed mine to magnaflow catback and still the car performance is the same
also some ppl in nissanclub prove that the true dual gain more than the regular exhausts!

any way i changed
i may change also the headers but i don't know which brand i will buy now

then do the dyno again
and see the results!
