just put in redline mt90- I dont feel anything

just poured in my redline mt-90 replacing the stuff the dealership put in which the tank read "gl-4/ gl-5" or something but I Dont notice a thing, shifting feels the same and all, unsuall notchy 2nd gear and occasional 3rd. how long does it take to feel a difference? instant or does it take time to fully circulate?

well where do you live? cold climate or hot during the winter? you will notice it more during the winter when viscosity levels are low and flowability is slow. In lay terms in the in the winter you will be able to drive the car much sooner and have smoother shifts if the temp is extremely cold compared to waiting maybe 10 minutes for the engine to warm up!! I changed both my engine oil and gear oil to amsoil, big differences in both categories for me, because i live in NYC, bad winters!!!

Hey, speak of the devil. I did this a short while ago too (MT-90), and also didn't notice very much difference. It does seem to be a bit better when it's not warmed up yet though.... I'm hoping winter is when I'll see the difference, as said.

I just wished I only bought 4, and not 5 bottles, since it took exactly 4, not 4.5 like the manual said.

Local shop. I can't remember what I paid for it, but it wasn't pretty. I live up North BTW, so no mail ordering for me!

Well here's the problem. After driving for a while, my shifter gets real, real thick and sluggish. So bad that its actually hard to shift. And when I put it into neutral, it doesnt pop to the middle, it just stays "above" the gear. Its hard to move sometimes. Do you think I need new tranny fluid, or what? I hate it, especially in traffic. Its hard to shift. And in traffic, its a nightmare. This happens a while after driving, after the car is all warmed up and stuff. When I first start driving its just stiff, but after a while, it gets real sluggish. Thanks.

MT-90 is good stuff, but why is everyone so hung up on it as the ONLY good option to try. Baaa Baaaa Baaaa

Choosing a tranny fluid is completely different than choosing a motor oil - what works great in one type of trans may work like crap in another tranny. Has nothing to with the fluid quaility, trannys are just picky.

For example:

DSM trannys like:
BG syncroshift (very popular)
BG synchroshift II (synth)
ATF (no kidding)
NEO (expensive, what CART teams run)
A mix of redline MTL and Mt-90 (MT-90 straight is too notchy)
Some people run straight MTL and love it, other say it causes bearing wear
GM synchromesh
Valvoline is o.k.

they HATE:
Mobil 1 (shifts like garbage!)
factory fluid

My 91 rx7 turbo *LOVED* Mt-90

My 300zx turbo showed no difference going to MT-90

Older SHO's love ATF

THe moral: Experiment with a few brands

This is why for Maxima applications the sticky thread up top only recommends three fluids. It's based upon other's experiences with Maximas, not other vehicles.

So it has all been tried, huh? Some people seem to not like the MT-90. Other options to try can't hurt, as long as they are in spec. When I used to drive standards trying different brands of fluids was a cheap way to experiment. Cheaper than trying out different exhausts, anaway.

If I went with the MT-90 and didn't get the results I was after, putting in 30-50% MTL would be step #2 But hey, it not in the sticky.
