Hey guys,
I'm hesitating changning my transmission fluid because so far 3 mechanics told me not to since it was never changed before and they said the tranny could start slipping. This worries me. Right now it's dark brown in color. Do i change it or not? Thanks

How about a drain and fill? That would put in about 4 quarts of fresh ATF. Keep the old stuff, though. If the transmission slips, you can put the old stuff back in (and start saving money for a new one). If no problem, do another drain and fill after 5 000 KMS or so.

When did you last change the tranny fluid? If you never changed yours for 80k miles, then drain and refill.

Drain and fill is when you open the drain plug at the bottom (middle of pan) and let the AFT drains out, typically about 4 Qt. If you wait about 30 minutes, up to 5 1/2 Qt. may come out. That's about 1/2 of the system capacity.

Would changing approx 1/2 of the ATF using this method be considered less risky than power flushing all the fluid out ( disconnecting the cooler return line, install a bleeder line into a can, starting engine for a few seconds, tooping up the fluid with fresh one) , considering the atf might have never been serviced at 60000 milles?
