engine cleaner?

ok i saw this stuff at wal-mart for like 3.50. its a one quart bottle and you add it to your oil before you change it and let your engine idle for 5 minutes and it's supposed to clean out your engine then you drain it with your oil and change your oil. has anyone ever used this or does anyone have any comments?

Amsoil makes a similar product, I used that when I bought my car at 76k. Changed oil filters, added the engine flush, and ran the car for 10 minutes. It got rid of all the varnish I could see on the heads when I took the oil cap off, so I'd say it works. Never used the 'generic' brands before though.

Gunk or the equivalent is a kerosene based solvent that will destroy/weaken your gaskets and seals causing leaks. It is crap.

Amsoil flush is the only solvent based (concentrated detergents similar to those in the Amsoil product line) to consider for cleaner the crankcase, but auto-rx is much better.

Here is the link. http://www.auto-rx.com
