When I change the oil on my 1995 Maxima with 155000 miles I usually get a little more than 4 quarts out of it. I know that engines "use" a certain amount of oil in between changes. I was wondering how much do you guys drain out and how much is considered a minimum safe level? I don't want to be damaging my engine if too much oil is being burned.
BTW: I notice no blue smoke or any signs I am burning oil.... at least that I know of.

About half a quart stays in the engine on my car. If I put in 4 quarts, about 4 quarts come out. If I put in 3.5 quarts, about 3.5 quarts come out.

the oil change calls for 4.25 quarts, so if half a quart stays in... shouldn't you be getting 3.75 quarts out?

which is roughly close to what i get
