Its GREEN!! (Amsoil Gear Lube replacement)

Ok...I finally put in my Amsoil Gear lube tonight (had it almost a month) and my car has 32K on it.

I switched out my Original gear oil at around 18K (It was gold and peppered with gold "flakes". I put in RedLine MT-90. I never felt the "goodness" everyone else felt. Still felt notchy...still hard to engage gears.

Today...I drained and filled with the Amsoil, which is green incidently versus the red of the Redline...weird. Anyhooo....

First impressions..The car temp was at 60F (Heated garage) and took it out for a spin. Immediately I felt a much nicer shift. No playing with the clutch/shifter to get it to engage. Zipped through the gears and it felt nice. Took it up on the highway and work 3rd, 4th and 5th pretty will...going back from 5 to 3....5 to 4 and never missed or ground the gears. I like it so far.

Long term test will be when it gets cold again to see how it operates. Also long term "feeling" of the shifts. I never felt that the MT-90 was helping...and I never felt the "smoothness" that I just felt with the amsoil. Maybe its just a head job... and my thinking. OR maybe its just the fact that its "new" might have caused the difference...dunno.

Stay tuned for a long term test.

I switched from the OEM fluid to MT-90 about 2 years ago. Made a noticable difference, esp. in winter. I'm gonna try out Amsoil's 75W-90 2000 series gear oil, when I change it this spring.

Def keep us updated...

Interesting feedback. I've yet to hear anyone complement the Amsoil gear lube more than MT-90. Interesting indeed....

I am curious how many of us there are that have gone from MT-90 to Amsoil? I was not "impressed" with the MT-90. Maybe because of all the hype I was expecting more? Dunno I was not under the impression many had used the Amsoil.

But yesterday it sat out in the cold, got down to 20 degree according to the onboard temp and the gearbox seemed good. Now it was not a "freezing" as it only spent about 5 hours at that temp before being restarted. It seemed a little thicker but still I got great shifts and smooth shifts.

Also in cleaning my drain pan the other day, as I was draining the fluid into gallon jugs and at the bottom of the pan is a dark "soot" (best I can explain it). Any suspicions as to what that could be?

Still have the fluid in an old distilled water jug. Worth anything?

I also drained it into my coolant catch bin which was rinsed, but not cleaned.

Having used both, I can honestly say I've never felt a difference. Now I stick with Amsoil because its just convenient when I order oil.

I changed mine to MT-90 and didn't notice much diff either. That was around 30-32K mi, I'm at 54 now... I'm thinking of changing it to MT-90 again by springtime.

Seeing as my shifting is a little uncomfortably notchy at times, I'm assuming a hypothesis: Changing the fluid to synthetic the first time doesn't make a difference, for whatever reason, but changing the fluid a 2nd time to ANY synthetic will make a difference.

That's what I'm hoping for; my fluid change this spring will corrobororate or disprove this hypothesis. For one thing, changing it to MT-90 the 2nd time should prove this hypothesis moreso than changing it to Amsoil, because it removes the possibility that the fluid brand causes the difference.

I am in nearly the same situation. I changed to the Amsoil series 2000 at around 30K and now am at 55K. The shifting now isn't nearly as smooth as it was when I first changed the fluid. But I did notice a big difference when I first put the Amsoil in. I am planning on changing it again this spring and hopefully the shifting will smooth back out.
