Synthetic ATF?

I have just completely flushed my 99 se's auto trans with synthetic ATF(AMS oil) is this a good or bad thing? Keep in my mind I'm from northern Ontario Canada and it gets really cold 8 months a year and really hot in the summer (-50 celsius to +35 celsius)
