Oversized filter debate....
I'm hearing two different stories about this. One is that its better because more oil and filtration is available with a larger filter, the downside i'm hearing is that a larger one affects the flow rate. I heard the oil pump is designed for a specific filter size and a larger one can disrupt the flow and pressure.
what gives? anybody know

I'm not an engineer, but I don't understand how with everything else being equal, a larger filter can (adversely) affect the flow rate or (oil) pressure. If anything, the larger filter should continue to be effective for longer intervals.
Be careful, however, as filters of different p/n's can be very different inside...just because it will screw on-to the vehicle doesn't mean it's the proper filter. For instance, not all filters from the same mfgr contain anti-drain-back valves. Another potential difference is that the internal by-pass valves may be calibrated for different pressures in order to open. These two features are extremely important.
Bottom line is to do your research before deviating from what the mfgr recommends. Afterall, the folks who designed your engine and who spec'ed the filter probably do have engineering degrees...

I am using Amsoil S2K 0w30. Expensive, but so far after 6K miles I have noticed lower temps, more get and go, and gained 1 mpg which amounts to a tankful of gas over 7.5k miles. My goal is to change it every 7.5 to 8k miles. Just waiting for my UOA to get back to see how far I can go.
