Using synthetic oils...

I am eager to change the oil in my car as I just bought it and I'm sure it was done by the dealer, but I would like to switch to synthetic. I searched the FAQ and found nothing. Would this be a good idea and possibly should we add this to the FAQ?

There is a wealth of info in here NOT the 5th gen forum. START by reading the stickys.
