You are right. Go to this stickie and find you Gen Max:

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=225766

For the 6th Gen, it provided a link to a detailed posting with pictures that really helped me change my fluid.

Remember, you are not draining the fluid, only topping it off, so you only remove the filler plug (not the drain plug).

If you fluid has more than 25 K miles on it, you would be smart to change it now.

Ok i found the one for my 4th Gen Max. but the only thing is it appears the fill plug is on the transmisson somewhere but i see him filling something up around the battery so im assuming after i lift my car up and take the plug out then i go to the top around the battery with my funnel and fill?

I had to buy a long funnel to do my 6th Gen trannie. The funnel was just in front of the battery and the long tube snaked down to the fill hole. It was tricky keeping the end of the tube in the hole. Good luck.

You might check out the thread on changing the 6th Gen fluid. There are some good pictures there of the equipment you need -- sounds like the same equipment you need for the 4th Gen trannie.

You don't need to jack the car up. In fact, if you do so, you won't fill the trans properly. The car needs to be on a level surface. Using a half inch drive ratchet (no socket needed), unscrew and remove the fill plug which is on the "front" of the trans (read: by the battery, look down). Stick the long funnel into the hole and SLOWLY pour fluid until it trickles out of the fill plug. When the fluid starts to come back out, stop pouring and let the trans top itself off. By this I mean, let the excess fluid come out. When it's done, put the fill plug back in.
