Calibration of the bypass valve only comes into play if the pressure drop across the element is greater than the opening pressure of the BP valve. If the valve is calibrated to open under too little pressure, then you are needlessly circulating unfiltered oil. If it's calibrated too high, you could potentially deprive the engine of oil if the filter were to become restricted/clogged.

The new AMSOIL EaO filters are advertised as be very efficient, durable and they boast a tremendous capacity as they employ new nanofiber technology. I realize that most people won't do this, but the recommended change interval for these filters is 1 year/25,000 miles. The recommended application for the Maxima is the EaO-13. The good news is that the EaO-13 is nearly 1 inch longer than the previous SDF-13, putting it roughly the same size as the 9E000 OEM filter. I intend to order one of these in the near future and post some pics side-by-side with an SDF-13 and OEM filter.

Talkinghorse, 1 inch longer actually makes it the same size as the M1-110. I was excited to read about Amsoils new EA filters. They are roughly the same price as the M1's. I must admit, I get a little miffed when people state, "I purchase Mobil 1 because it's easier to go to the store and buy it". Personally, I find it easier to either call you or since you were nice enough to include a preferred customer with my last order I can just place my order over the internet and have it at my doorstep within 2 days. Normally it's here the next day since I'm within 2 hours of a distribution facility.

For the price, Purolator, NAPA Silver (Wix) or Nissan 90E00... They are all good ones... Take your pick.

What would people recommend for the best short filter (2.5 inches long) if the OEM short filter is crap? How long is the M1-105 and how expensive is it?

What change intervals to you intend on using? If you are going to change it every 3k, then just about anything will work. The OEM, Purolator Pure-One, WIX and NAPA Gold are very good filters for up to 7500 miles. If you are using synthetics for extended drain intervals and/or just want a top-tier filter, the M-1 Extended Life or AMSOIL EaO should be considered. These premium filters are generally more efficient; they have higher capacity; and the medium is such that it will not degrade from the hot oil running thru them. The AMSOIL EaO is advertised as being the most efficient filter on the market and it can be used for up to 25K or 1 year of service.
