wow~ first time!

after i've done the auto-rx clean phrase, i got the oil change at my friend's place, they asked me to do something called Terraclean, don't know if you guys have heard it... http://www.terraclean.net/home.htm

anyway.... here is the story, i've had the car for 30,000kms, the most km for a tank is around 390km-430km before, i have to fill it up by 430km otherwise the car might died in the middle of the road... so after that auto rx oil change, now i m on the rinse phrase, and i got that "TerraClean" done as well, i've drain and filled coolant, ATF and break fluid and put my brand new hawk pad on and reserviced the OEM rotor... guess what... this time... my gas light went on around 510km.... what a difference... it gain like 80-120KM after i done all those stuff...

i am wondering it's because of the Auto RX? or that TerraClean???
or anyone acturally heard of that Terra Clean?? to be honest.. i never heard of it... and i thought they only makes u feel better instead of doing something real... hahaha

by the way my car is now 56,xxxkm, maybe 500km/tank is what u guys used to have, but i mean to me it's the FIRST TIME!!! haha so happy

I'm not too familiar with Kilometers

if it is the result of the auto-rx and terraclean, then cool!

310 miles per tank = around 21mpg, assuming you fill w/ 15 gallons...

...which is not good...

I have +150lbs worth of deadening and audio gear and CONSISTENTLY get 360 miles to the 15 gallons.

Are Kevlo and I the only ones whom maintain their vehicles?

I've had the max about a year and its got only 80,000kms on it now(60,000 when i bought it) and i havent done too much to the it other than rad flush, tranny flush, oil changes and brakes, plus repairs to the motor mounts and Solenoid packs. What else is suggested that I do? I hate asking the dealer what maintenence is required, i only do enough to keep my extended warranty going...

I also use only premium gas, usually at least 92 octane.

Well, I will throw what I am doing out there, but I don't consider it to be extraordinary by any means...

ANNUAL (about $100)
- MT Fluid (AMSOIL)
- Coolant System Cleaning & Replacement (OEM Nissan)
- PCV Replacement
- AMSOIL Ea Air Filter

EVERY 5,000 MILES (about $50)
- Oil Change (AMSOIL)
- Oil Filter Change (OEM Nissan)
- Seafoam through Brake Booster Line
- Chevron Techron (500 miles before change)

...I also have Irish's Home-Depot oil catch can mod which needs to be emptied about every 2 weeks or so...I drive 700 to 750 miles bi-weekly.

lalaMAX,

I used AutoRX last year before switching to synthetic oil for the first time in February. I used it as a precaution to minimize the risk of an oil leak. At 56,000 kilometres you would not need to use AutoRX in all likelihood as your car is too new to benefit much from it.

I have never heard of Terraclean before. I would not use anything like that unless it was just before I needed to change the oil and I don't think I would use it in combination with AutoRX, but did use Chevron Techron just before the end of my AutoRX clean phase.

The VQ engine is not a sludge monster and is not prone to carbon buildup.

Seafoam and Chevron Techron every 5,000 miles is overkill and a waste of money. I have never used Seafoam and have no intentions of doing so. I have used AutoRX and Chevron Techron. I would be more inclined to use the Chevron Techron about every 10,000 miles.

Rather than use Seafoam, consider LubeControl LC20 and as an alternative to Chevron Techron, consider LubeControl FP60. See the LubeControl website and the Additives Forum of www.bobistheoilguy.com.

Go to www.bobistheoilguy.com and register as it is a very worthwhile website.

Go to the Additives, Fuel, Oil, Cleaners forum. See the 2nd sticky LC/FP FAQ.

kcryan, who is an avid poster in the Fuel & Lubricants forum of the .org, is also a member of BITOG and is a faithful user of LubeControl products. I haven't used their products yet. It is a bit of a pain to import them into Canada, but I am considering doing it, particularly if I can get someone to go in on the buy with me to increase the volumes.

Also run a search in the above-mentioned forum under say LC20 and FP60 to see what other knowledgeable BITOGERs have to say about these products.

I don't believe Seafoam is raved about on that website as there are better alternatives.

In fact, I have read where some question just what Seafoam does for an intake manifold other than blow a lot of smoke that may just be a function of the product rather than carbon buildup in the intake.

As far as cleaning combustion chambers and ring packs, AutoRX is the strong favorite.

FP60 is a fuel system cleaner that is supposed to improve fuel economy. LC20 is an oil additive.

for people who have 360-400.... are we talkin about the same car???

bobo:
whats your km for a tank? just wondering... by the way for that terra clean i got it for free so i don't really mind... coz my friend's boss wasnt there hahahahaha.... but anyway for the auto rx, i decided to put all 12 oz in because i knew the perivous owner was a 40 years old mom, the car was only for picking up her son on the local elementry which is not even a block away... and used to go to super store ones every week or two... so she only put 20000km on 4 years... and i am getting terrible km for tank...(around 360km sometimes...i didn't drive it hard by the way...) that's why i am trying everything to make my engine clean....

I am not sure if this is a coincidence or if you knew, but the synthetic oil I switched to is Esso XD3 Extra, 0w30, PAO. I got it at the Esso commercial card lot out in Burnaby last July (a case of 12 bottles). The VQ likes a heavier weight oil and given the XD3 is also for diesel applications it is a heavier 30 weight at operating temperatures than say Mobil 1 5w30.

I have been running it for 6 months now and my car likes it. I am going to the Okanagan on the weekend and will be testing my gas mileage. It is not an energy conserving oil, but thus far I haven't noticed my fuel economy being adversely affected. The same can not be said for running German Castrol which will hurt your fuel economy.

I don't know what weight oil the TL calls for, but if 5w30 is acceptable, I don't see why you can't run the XD3 in it.

I plan on running this oil year round and only plan on changing my oil once a year as I am a low-mileage mostly highway user.

I have read UOAs on BITOG where a taxi company in Saskatchewan has run this oil over the winter for 40,000 kilometres and was told they could have run it longer.

Personally, I won't extend it beyond say 10,000 km.

Given the nature of how your car was driven prior to you owning it, I guess the AutoRX application certainly wouldn't hurt. I, too, put in the whole 12 ounce bottle despite the fact the instructions would only call for 9 ounces.

My fuel economy may have picked up, acceleration may have improved, but certainly the engine idles so quietly, even before switching to XD3, that I literally can not hear it at idle with the windows rolled up.
