Penzoil Platinum?

Is this oil highly regarded...is anyone using it or done a UOA on it?
Advance Auto Parts is selling it buy 1 get 1 each quart....which makes me leery of the stuff. BITOG has some info on it, just looking for some more.

I would be inclined to defer to the wisdom of the BITOG members on this one.

Not claiming to know, but per those who know at BITOG, Pennzoil changed the formulation not too long ago. The first PP formulation was primarly Gr. V base oils, but from what I've read, PP is now a Gr. III based oil.

It is very good stuff at a reasonable price. Good marketing -- if they continue doing this either they will out of business, or will make the big boys follow Pennzoil -- EOM, BP, Chevron and Shell.

depending on the vintage it is likely GIII. but quite frankly my VQ likes GIII better than GIV or GV so I'd be inclined to give it a try. PAO based oils (M1 and GC) give me cold start knock.

I'VE USED Penzoil Platinum IN MY 2002 MAXIMA FOR OVER A YEAR NOW. I JUST TRIED MOBLE 1 AND MY MPG WENT DOWN ABOUT 4 MPG. I'M GOING BACK TO Penzoil Platinum.

LOL. How long? Was your driving the same? What is your measurement statistics against what base line values?

Knee jerk responses like this are not helpful. Discussing chemical makeup and testing results are. Just saying "its fine" or "its good" doesnt mean diddly squat. Anybody do OCI testing? Stating that you get knock with a certain formula is a good thing (although a bad situation I would be curious how "cold" to get).

I'm sure that oil is just as good as any other reputable synthetic. But I'll probably stick with my Mobil 1 for now.

if you haven't done so already...make a screen name for BITOG forums and let them handle the situation....you don't even have to search and the fellas over there are nice enough to answer all your oil/fluid needs....I've done that a few times over there...and they have been marvelous

BITOG FTW!
