I read the threads last fall that described the alleged 'cheapening' of the 9E000 filters. When I mentioned it to the parts guy at the dealer, he was highly skeptical, and suggested I cut my next one open after an oil change.

Guess what? Metal end caps and silicone ADBV. These filters were bought after the big controversy. I can't explain what happened on the one we all saw pictures of, but it appears to be an anomoly.

Your dealer may still have the old stock of the 'good' filters with the metal caps and silicone ADBV (red).

Your location in Iowa may not see a lot of parts supply chain turn over. In other cities they seem to have gone through the good filters and are now on the cardboard endcap ones.

I've switched to the Mobil M1-110 filters and haven't looked back.

does it say "made in china" on the filter? the newest version is made in china, and definitely has silicon adbv. you may be the first to actually cut one open.

personally, I don't think the metal endcaps matter at all. I cut open the "cheap" cardboard version, and I can tell you there's no way those endcaps are going to tear or come loose. they are quite durable.

Actually, this is pretty good sized dealership, 34 Maximas - 85 Altimas currently in stock. I imagine they go through inventory quickly.

Not sure where it was made, I'll try to check when I get home.

Mine are made in Japan.

Last one I cut open was from about a year ago. It was made in Japan and had metal caps and a silicone ADBV (I assume it was silicone).

Hmm. I better start doing my own oil changes so I can see for myself. Thanks for the tip.
