This thread belongs in the Fluids and Lubes section of this site. Check out the good advice on this thread about changing oil in a 6th Gen Max.

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=407421

There are other threads and stickies in the Fluids and Lubes section with good advice. Don't just stay in the 6th Gen posting section of this site.

Final point: The volume of motor oil you need depends on the size of the filter you are using. Some Mobil 1 filters are larger than the Nissan filter and thus require more oil to fill them. Better to underfill (slightly) than overfill (slightly) you engine with motor oil. So its best to not put all of the oil you think you need in when you do the re-fill. Leave out about 1/2 a quart and see where the level falls on your dipstick after running the engine for at least 10 minutes. You can easily add more oil to bring it up to full. It is much harder to try and remove some oil if you overfill.

Depends of what filter your using. The stock small one I would put in 4 and a half and check from there.

Did you bother looking at your owner's manual?
