Hello everyone. I know this topic has been beaten to death ever since it was introduced, but I would like a clear answer on this from someone that knows more about it than me. Is it safe to put seafoam in the crankcase? Of course it says so on the can, but I'm wondering if I will hear more lifter clatter or start to use oil more severely or will it be fine. I'm at 73,xxx miles and I just did the treatment through the brake booster line. Is it advisable?

 

I seafoamed my Max a few weeks ago. I added some to the crankcase about 50 or so miles before I did an oil change. I'm sure it will be find in the crankcase for a bit.

 

I wouldn't use that crap in my crankcase if imy life depended on it, particularly at 73k miles. If your car hasn't seen a lot of highway miles or you are contemplating a switch to synthetic oil, then try AutoRx. Absent that then LubeControl. Seafoam is for boat engines, lol!

 

I bought the car at 60k so i dont know what kinda mileage it had before that. the 13k i've put on is mostly highway mileage. I've been using castrol 5w30. I was kinda scared to switch to synthetic at that mileage so I just went with second best.

 

Don't sweat the small stuff. At 73K, the engine is barely broken in and you won't have any problems switching to synthetic oil.

Given that you don't know how the engine was treated for the first 60k, I would do an AutoRX regimen first even if you don't switch to synthetic oil.
