It's an engine not a motor.

I used Castrol GTX after draining out the oil that came from the factory at about 3,750 miles. I only went to 7 K miles or so before switching to Mobil 1. That was only one change with the GTX. If I could do this over again I would have done at least 2 changes with the GTX before going synthetic. I believe the posts that say an engine should be thoroughly broken in before going synthetic. I think that somewhere aroung 10 to 12 K miles will do that with the VQ engine.

You should NEVER use a detergent free motor oil in a modern engine like the VQ.
Conventional or "Dino" motor oil will have detergents in it and that is fine and a good oil to use during engine break-in.
