floor jack question..

I recently got this jack from harbor freight http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=94629

I have one problem with it. To lower the saddle you use the long handle which turns some teeth, connected to some other teeth which releases the pressure.

I find it very difficult to rotate the handle in tniy increments as to actually lower the car into jack stands at a safe speed. They pretty much almost drop onto the stands.

Is this just me?? or is there some special technique? or is there any way to adjust the lowering speed??
if not i think i just might have to return it and get a different one.

thanks!

Seems that the seal went on the jack. Its common and if you are handy you can fix it.

That's exactly the same jack I use and have had no problems with it. How long have you had that jack? The have a pretty decent warranty. If it is giving you problems then you should take it back for a replacement.

I have a Harbor Freight jack and it is just a nice as my craftsman unit. In some ways it is better. Mine works smoother than the craftsman in ability to lower slowly.

You could get a pair of vice grips on the handle.....more 'ghetto' way of doing it but it allows for an easy and smooth operation.

I also have a similar harbor freight jack. Never had any issues with it lowering. I just turn it slowly and it works.

I just bought the same one, and experienced the same issue. The teeth on the gears skip, makes it very hard to slowly lower the jack

Here's the trick.

Instead of trying to lower the jack when the arm is vertical, lower it when it's horizontal (parallel with the ground)

I will be getting a low profile HF floor jack to put in my trunk, any tips on having it not bang up the inside? I was thinking I'd make like a wood box for it to sit in.

Do you have any pressure on the handle when trying to turn it. I noticed on mine, If there is pressure on the handle, it makes it hard to turn and lower the jack.

Ampire - put it in a luggage case

I was using same jack prior to current one and it was working fine with me. I found a bit speedy but wasn't that much.
