This is what I was thinking- grind the rust down, fiberglass it, then paint over it. Anyone have any tips? It's on my buddy's 01.

 

Cut that whole section out and weld in new metal.

That looks like a rear quarter. There's no buying that lol

 

+1, and periodically check the paint. As long as the paint is good the rust shouldn't spread.

sure u can, but not worth the hassle.....but cut it out wire brush all and every spec of rust and weld new metal in....do ur body work, prime, sand and the paint......dont forget the inside of the lip cause u will be doin it again if u dont

 

I was saying you can't just buy it and bolt it on like a front fender.

 

+1, that is exactly what I would do, if done right, it'll be flawless and should last a long time.

yeah trust me on this one, i hate rust repairs but they are starting to get all to common at the bodyshop i work at, plus the older guys workin there know a thing or to bout this,

 

but it would be so awesome if you could, it would make quarter jobs sooo easy
