Own a Dynomometer for $149 !!!???

I found a link for a product that claims to allow you to make your own dynomometer runs and download and view the results with a PC. The cost is only $149! I read the info in the link and it sounds pretty good. Has anyone used this product? It would be pretty easy to verify if the thing works by making a comparison to an actual dyno run... and it comes with an unconditional refund if you are not satisfied.

The below statement makes me worry

"We have tested numerous automobiles, four of which were in stock condition. On each of the four stock vehicles, the Road Dyno produced numbers VERY close (within 5 hp) to stock specifications. On the one modified vehicle, the Road Dyno returned numbers exactly where expected (within 5 hp) when compared to other vehicles with the same modifications that had been dynoed at a dyno facility."

Ok stock numbers and wheel HP are NOT the same.. and not within 5 hp of each other.

I would say it is a ripoff.

Since I am sure it does not come with something to pull your car onto and spin the wheels for only $150, maybe this tests and shows results for horsepower at the CRANK, and not at the wheels? In this case it would still be just as useful.

Just think, how much (tens of thousands) does a mom and pop garage spend on a Snap On engine analyzer, when all they really needed was $100 and a PC!

DYNO

All of this talk seems to be a moot point as the picture shows a clip device for the spark plug wire like a timing light. Since all later model Maximas don't have high tension plug wires, how could we use this?????

You're right, later Max's don't have plug wires, BUT there is a timing loop on the cylinder #1 ignition coil wire harness. It functions the same as if you had an induction pickup on a true plug wire.

Actually it isn't bad

I got the cheaper home dyno which is $40. As long as you supply the right weight the program would be within 1-5hp of a dyno. It can be set to show power at the wheels or at the crank. I've had trouble because my inductive pickup gets to much noise from the other plug wires. I did get a good run in from my 97 ranger. The results were 90rwhp/106rwtq, at the flywheel it is rated at 112hp/135tq so its not bad. Once I get a good reading from the se-r I'll hit the dyno can compare. It doesn't really guestimate the power because it times the spark pules vs ET. Then all you do is supply the gear ratio, weight and tire size plus drag coeffiecent.
