Guess what I drove,,,,

I got to drive a brand smacking new M5 today, it was amazing. The seats hug you and the gearbox is sweet. The power was endless. I am in love. The clutch took some time to get used to, but after a while it was pretty cool. The cluth is computer actuated so it's either in or out, no bringing it out slowly. Later when I wasn't driving, my friends dad was driving (dealer-friend gave him the car for the weekend)and next thing we know we see these bluish headlights coming up really fast and pull up next to us and its a brand new Porsche GT2, first one I had ever seen, you could even see the red calipers as it was next to us, and we just messed around with him on the highway never really racing.

Since I know the mods will be upset because it doesn't have anything to do with a maxima. The local BMW dealership is also a Nissan and Chevy dealership, so me and my friend got to testdrive a 2k2 Maxima 6 speed, and it was awesome. I don't know if it was the new car smell or the 255 hp, but I started to feel jealous that my 2k 5 speed GXE didn't have all this stuff. It was hard to get back in my car after driving these two awesome cars. Although I feel guilty saying M5 and maxima in the same sentence. I feel heart broken that I don't have an m5, my heart just feels empty and I feel like crying. It was truly the ultimate driving machine.

M5 eh? Hmm, I think i'd rather take a '03 Cobra and 49 grand cash. Or, a 2k2 6spd Max and the 48 grand cash...or 70 g's wouldn't be too bad either.

Cars are cool and it's fun to be an enthusiast, but IMHO $70,000+ for a vehicle is rediculous, even if it is as sweet as the M5. BMW's are overpriced anyways.

$53k for an M5? Try $70k+ but keep in mind it's a fast as a Cobra, handles better, seats more people, is more prestigious, and luxurious.

Wow, even more making my point. Prestigious? Dude you sound like an old man Cyrus

Screw BMW, I'll take a G35 Coupe for half the price of an M5 and keep my sanity. The only way i'd buy a bimmer is if I was loaded.

A Cobra and a M5 are two different classes of cars. Why does everyone say that BMWs are overpriced??? The M5 is the ultimate production sedan in the the US period. The RS6 is coming next year, which may very well take the M5s place.

It's not like it cost me anything. It was all free and went by way too quick. I can also definitley merit the 80,000 dollar price tag. Amazing seats front and rear, awesome sound system, suede headliner, gps, everything you can thing of, and its got an ok engine to boot.

that car's motor is totally race bred...its so advanced that you actually NEED to warm it up..it wont let you rev past 4500 rpm untill fully warmed..tehn its all the way to about 7....from hearing my friends talk about the way it handles..and from the videos..its simply amazing to see it in a 4 door car. I heard it keeps up with corvettes in slaloms...Whatever..its an ultimate machine..for 70+k..i think its worth it if you can get it...seats 5 in comfort..seats 5 at hyper speed...seats 5 hauling ***..good enough for me.

my .com friend just sold his (layoff=no stock=broke)

funny you mention the clutch. My friend had his replaced at 3k miles, and NOBODY on his webboard made it past 15k miles on the original M5 clutch.

it was a sweet ride, but almost $80k... nope... I'd take the cobra and $50k, thanks.

Whats with people comparing a 03 Cobra and M5?? The only stat you can compare is 1/4 times. A M5 is a luxury sedan with tons of amenities/refinement vs a outdated muscle car. The Cobra is a great performance car in the straight line and SVT has made it handle well, but it is riding on a 20 year old chasis. Doesnt impress me that much from a technology standpoint. The Cobra is finally a threat to the Vette, but Ford had to S/C their modular engine to match the output of the LS1/LS6.

you're missing the point... it's not he cobra that's the issue, it's the $80,000.00 (for me anyway). I think we're saying we'd take a cobra, or a Max and supercharge it, or a used M3, or any number of other cars for less than $35k and have the other $45k cash.

It's a money thing, not a car thing.

M5 is 70K BTW

It all depends on what type of car you are looking for. A Cobra is a great bang for the buck. It lacks a lot of refinement and luxury features that a M5 has or even our Maximas have.

As for money....If you have 80k laying around to spend I doubt your 1st choice would be a Cobra.

Just to vere a little OT, I think we should all be thankfull we drive Maxima's.. We have nicer cars then ALOT of people. Most of the population drives economy cars or beaters, we drive sport sedans with the best V6 available. I know when i'm at a stoplight and look around I become thankfull that I drive such a quality car. Seriously though..

I concur...After going to GT66(import drag/auto-x) today and seeing the flood of ricers there I am thankful. So many slow cars there it wasnt even funny. I mean most of the cars were 16-17 second cars. Neal ran a 14.6X which was a very very respectable time for this crowd. Usually when u go to the track the place is swamped with fast f-bodies and mustangs.

i would impulsively buy the '03 cobra because it's superfast but a few years down the line i would regret the decision due to my Cobra being Fixed Or Repaired Daily.

Cobra is only good if you want power. Everything else.. from fuel economy, to Found On Road Dead reliability, to luxury, comfort and quality.. = no good. M5 is the ultimate 4 door sports car, that is it.
I won't compare the Cobra to anything at all.. because there really aren't any other cars close to it in the price range and in the same class, except maybe the Vette.

If it was all about speed, everyone would be driving Cobras. There are other things that are just as important and even more important to me and I'm sure many others besides speed.

I haven't had the pleasure of driving an M5 yet but I was blown away by a 540i auto and a 99 M3 manual. I can't even imagine what the M5 feels like.
