Yeah me to the color and the fact it has a 5-speed trans did it for me.

The fact that it was available when the buyer for my car was ready.
To this day I still wish I woulda found a low-mile 95-96 prelude si 5-speed, but the 5-speed SE max all options isn't a bad consolation.
edit as not to postwhore:
why? imo...better exterior styling by far, better interior styling by a little (can't fade the gas-lit gauges and the universal dash...wonder why they skimped on the 5th gen lude interior?
), a little better overall reliability, better handling stock, better manual-transmission experience overall (reliability of tranny, linkage, clutch), and if I wanted to mod, I have a feeling aftermarket has stronger support all over.
The max is more mature, with a smooth V6, but there's some things that take away from the smoothness of the ride. After having tastes of both I think I prefer a quick & nimble coupe over a smooth V6 sedan, provided the coupe has some low-end to make it city-driveable, which the lude does.
I frown upon any nissan owners who are 100% anti-honda and vice-versa. There's things to be said about both companies in general, but in the end, they're both trying to make a buck in a little bit different of ways. Don't hate the playa, hate the game.

I got the Max because it was time to replace my 96 I30t 5spd and Infiniti dropped the manual tranny from the new models. I could do without the extra road noise and cheaper plastics but overall I'm very happy with the Max. I will probably go back to Infiniti, though. I don't need a boat so the next Maxima is going off my list. Besides, I still believe that a Japanese car is better made in Japan, not so much because of quality control but due to the part suppliers. I see a 6 spd G35 in my future.
