installed the pacesetter today...

i got the pacesetter today (thanks ShortChaz!!!) and i installed it a couple hours ago but i have a few questions. the shifts are a lot shorter but it seems as though the whole gearbox is moved forward. what i am trying to say is its like all my shifts are farther up towards my stereo. i almost have to move my seat up closer to reach the shifter more comfortably. is this normal? if it is, i can live with it. maybe im just not used to the shorter throws... gimme feedback!

Trevor

p.s. my maxima no longer feels like an 18-wheeler when i shift, woohoo!

Yep, that's what the STS will do with the shifts. Please tell me you didn't go any lower than 50% with the throw because the shorter the throw, the harder it is on the syncros.

BTW, why did Charles sell his STS?

he told me to leave it where it was set at and the only way to tell is if you are measuring from the top of the shifter to bottom in which case it would be set at less than 50% but if you looking from bottom to top then its probably around 65% so
hes turning his car back to stock (except for the SFCs) because hes trading it in.

Hey dave, I keep hearing about the syncros and the pacesetter. How expensive is it to fix them if they go?

very. from what i hear, the syncros themselves are fairly cheap, but its the labor that kills you. i think most everyone who has had syncros repaired has went ahead and rebuilt the whole tranny because it was cheaper.

hmmm, I have my ball set so it's just under the top threads. Is that very bad?

That's near as short as you can adjust it. Just make sure you don't slam into gear... if it doesn't go, especially in first and reverse, just double clutch. Also, don't get a shift **** that sits low on the shifter rod. I just switched my Sola Luna **** (which I loved!) for my stock unit. I couldn't believe the difference the extra 3/4 inch in height makes because shifting is now so much easier--I have in on the shortest throw, btw. Maybe Stillen had it right by making shifts shorter but maintaining near stock rod height. Also, I think Nissan did a good job on the stock ****... it feels pretty darn good!

Man where were you when I needed ya

I posted a thread about having problems getting into 1 and Reverse..Eric D Wong told me to double clutch for reverse and it works like a charm. I never thought to do the same at stoplights when I need to get into gear.

Great post.

Sorry bro... others mentioned the double clutching so I didn't feel the need to reiterate the same. I did read the thread though...
